Er... being mildly dislexic, I'm known to make the odd muck up every now and then. And I've done it again. Instead of two HS PX-505 units won at auction... I've got two HS P-505 units coming. Does anyone have a service manual PDF for the HS P-505 please? (and if anyone has a service manual for the HS PX-303, that would be gratefully received also)
Aaaannnnddd... I've put this in the wrong tech talk thread. Could someone kindly move it to the walkman thread please? Sorry.... I'm having one of those days.
I don't have a P505 service manual, but I have some experience with Aiwas with this mechanism. It's a weird but reliable "half-logic" mechanism (only play and stop are logic controlled). You will likely need new belts and all the capacitors replaced. You will have to buy the shortest available caps and clean up the electrolyte leakage (very likely). But since you have two you can put the best parts together and have 2 chances at fixing it! I do have a JX303 manual, same mechanism, but different board. Let me know if you want it.
Yes please - anything is better than nothing ... and where to buy the caps from please? I'm in the UK.
Look up this list for a start: http://www.stereo2go.com/forums/threads/list-of-common-walkman-capacitors-2017.1246/ Compare Newark, Farnell, Digikey, Mouser, and see which one gets you the set of caps for the least cost. To find out what caps you need, you should open up a unit and desolder the board to check. Buy spares and common extras for future walkmans like your PX303. Look up pictures of the pcb online. PM me your email address and I'll send you the manual.
Thank you for the kind offer. I do have that one now. I have also bought a manual for the HS PX303, which should be with me in a few weeks. I'm just going to have to wing it with the P505, which should hopefully be relatively straightforward... I hope!
There's a ton on this site, I didn't look up your model number but hope this helps! http://www.hifi-manuals.com/Aiwa They're free and I've downloaded with no problems....
