    Hello.
I am looking for a decent build and audio quality walkman which will not cost a fortune and can play chrome/metal tapes as well.
Could you please suggest a couple of Sony models that could fit to my requirements?
    Thanks,
    Balazs

My first thought was the Sony WM-22 which was, if i recall correctly , Sony's first attempt to provide a relatively cheap but good machine for mass consumption and it plays chrome and metal tapes as well I recall.Go to the Central Walkman site for more info .You can normally buy this machine on eBay for under £100 but prices I notice have been rising in recent months for these models .Another nice entry level model, in my opinion, is the Sony WM-24 in champagne colour and there is a nice one on E-bay newly listed at the moment for under £50 plus £4.95 PP. I am ot sure off hand if it plays chrome and metal but the Central Walkman site should provide this info . I hope this may be of help Philip

    Hello.
Thank you for your promt reply. What about WM-EX615?
As per the service manual it could automatically determine the tape type using ATS sensor.
I would be able to buy a near mint version of this model.
    Regards,
    Balazs

Yes that is a excellent machine and often sold on E-bay but can be more dear . There happen stop be one up for sale from Singapore which is a good price and is in good condition but the postage is costly and there are import duties to pay on top here is the link
SONY WALKMAN WM-615.. Super Sound. Working Great.

There are also 4 on E-bay _UK now one is parts only for £40but the other 3 are working and in good order and 2 cost £ 90 but the third one is £199. It probably has more accessories but worth a look

Sony EX series can be your best choice with your price range. You already got EX615 and i think that was a good choice.

Well. I just received the WM-EX615. It was not a successful purchase. I just sent it back to the seller. It was not able to fast forward and rewind (most probably the belt is already streched). For 130 EUR I would expect something I don't need to restore. What do you think guys? Are my expectations to high for this value?
I already back to square one, so I am still looking for a good sounding walkman which capable to play chrome and metal tapes.

I think you can buy a restored/ repaired walkman from one of our members.

I could buy a Panasonic RQ-S60. All parts included (box, headphone with remote, original box, charger, external battery compartment, pouch) and it is in mint condition. The belt was changed back in 2010. It would cost 120 EUR for me. This walkman is located here in Budapest so I would have the chance to try it before buy. I would be curious what the forum members think about this walkman and whether it is worth the money I mentioned above? Can this be as good as the similar Sony or AIWA walkmans. Can this be as good as WM-D6C for eg in sound quality?

Panasonic walkmans sounds good and probably i can compare this walkman with some of Sony EX series walkman.
My biggest problem with most of the Panasonic walkmans is the access to movement parts to change the belt. Panasonic walkmans are the most difficult walkman when it comes to changing the drive belt.
D6C quality is much better than Panasonic RQ-S60.

Well. I tried to find a service manual for this model to find out how the belt change goes, but no luck so far. D6C is better sound quality or better construction?
