Hello everyone, not so long ago my Sony WM-EX372 - my buddy, my companion since i was 16 years old - gave up the gost. The battery compartiment became very hot. I changed the batteries, but the same issue happened, even creating some smoke! I was in shock. My beloved walkman - although not an high end model, not even close - stopped playing my old cassettes. So, the reason ending up here at stereo2go was because of my walkman. A nice fellow named Will, member at MFBfreaks.com (a highly respected and crowdy forum dedicated to PHILIPS motion feedback devices and beyond) brought me here. Searching for another walkman / portable compact cassetteplayer, in my case i was narrowing my search for a nice PHILIPS portable cassetteplayer, I was surprised how little and scattered the information was towards portable compact casseteplayers other than Sony and - lesser Aiwa. And even for Sony, the big picture is still missing (well, i can't find it) : a genealogy tree - like data-base that comprises all walkman's / portable cassette players, ordered in date of release, specifications, clones, etc. Besides my broken Sony WM-EX372 - that i want to have repaired, period - i own a Grundig BeatBoy 36 and a Mostone Playmate. Both in need for a service, but working. My wishlist (what my eyes liked searching the internet): the early Toshiba walkman (stating that servicing is a relief in comparisson with a Panasonic, and it's quality is really good). Also Telefunken did bring out a walkman, a curiousity that i would really like to have my hands on it. About PHILIPS than: the Skymaster Mark II is my favorite for now. Although not having the specs i am looking for - and maybe somebody can help me for disclosure - : a PHILIPS radio fm compact cassette player with line in jack - for making mixtapes - and record function. Well, that's it! Stereo2go is like a candy store full of information! I will add photos of my collection of devices later through my mobile phone. Greetings, Santi. Welcome to Stereo2go SantiOriginal. I am sure some of the guys will be able to help you, i bet the information you want can be found on the old Stereo2go site.
Hello and welcome to the site. There is a massive wealth of knowledge and expertise here, and everyone is very friendly! As for timelines, here are a few for Sony http://www.sonyvintage.com/?page_id=1253 https://translate.google.com/transl...jp/~an4t-tkns/taro/walkman/1979.htm&sandbox=1 And of course our illustrious leader's website! http://www.walkman-archive.com/gadgets/index.html
Hi Lupogtiboy, wow, thanks for the links! It helps me getting the big picture . So there IS a website for Sony walkman's, all chronologically ordered. Nice! Already found out through a member from mfbfreaks.com that PHILIPS made at least one model portable cassetteplayer with record function: the philips d6290. It does have a mic-jack. Edit: i think not! Not sure if i can plug a 3.5mm cable in it to my smartphone to record music from it. Is it possible?
