I want to make a chronological list of PHILIPS compact cassette recorders (walkman -format).
I know some were called, Skyway, Skymaster, Skyline with a version number.
I don't think the list will be very long.
Until now i have found the folowing models:

    D6270 https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philips_d6270.html
    D6290 http://docs.mfbfreaks.com/folders/philips/de/1988-1989/pag47.jpg
    AQ6390 https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philips_handheld_cassette_record.html

    AQ6435 https://www.philips.co.in/c-p/AQ6345_00/portable-radio-cassette-rec
    N2002 https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philips_n2002n_200.html

This thread just made me realized that Philips made only very few models of walkman-style recorders. Here's another one AQ6390.

Both machines are such beautifull devices! Although not "walkman with recodable feature" you got my attention! They must be priceless by now to achieve...

Thanks! I think i will make a shift between PHILIPS portable compact cassette players before the ""walkman" era that are slightly bigger, and PHILIPS portable compact cassette players with record function during the "walkman"-era. (pocket-format), right now my main focus.

I'm curious wich PHILIPS portable compact cassetteplayer with record function can be considered as the first " walkman" of that era.

How about some Norelco stuff? Norelco is basically Philips too, as far as I know. If you wanna include Norelcos, there's the Norelco 1440 & 2595.

Yes. Norelco = PHILIPS. The 1440 is such a desirable device, wow!
PHILIPS has a long tradition using other brandnames: Erres, Aristona, Norelco, Magnavox, Dux, Grundig, Marantz, Hornyphone. Only Marantz did survive Philip's hungerlust. Grundig has degraded way of what it was. And Philips Audio itself is recently given away from Gibson Innovations to TPV as orignal design manufacturer / license for PHILIPS. TPVision already had PHILIPS tv division as odm / in license.

Ok, as for PHILIPS pre-"walkman"-era portable compact cassette recorders i have found a very beautifull website: www.oudio.nl, so let me focus on the later "walkman-era stuff of Philips.

I have just added the personal stereos pages from my unknown date French Philips catalogue (although most people think 1981/82).

    http://www.stereo2go.com/forums/threads/french-philips-catalogue.2954/#post-24949

I like the Skywalker name one has.

I think that once Sony produced the first Walkman all other manufacturers jumped on the Bandwagon. I suspect Philips made dozens of different units but I don't know if they ever made any high end units.
You were lucky to get rewind. As for a record function that was rare on any Personal Stereos.

p.s. I was aware of the auto-changing cassette deck. .
    This thread has a photo.

and I just found a video

p.p.s I don't think Grundig was ever Philips owned but they did share technology like the ill fated Video 2000 system.

Beautifull history of Philips! You could be right, not sure if Grundig really was aquired by Philips. My favorite Philips "walkman" for now is the Skywalker Mark II. Metal casing and such a nice design!
I wish now with TPVision as new lisence owner of Philips Audio a new era for Philips will begin with focus on quality. A new metal casing "walkman" with all features (recording, line in, mic, bluetooth, radio) would be a nice start :)

I find Philips interesting as a company as I work in the factory where they developed things like the ICs for their first CD players (although it has nothing to do with Philips now).
I reckon if you went back to the 1970s you could have bought all the electrical goods you needed for a house from them. Domestic Appliances, AV gear, to the Lighting - they made the whole lot.

True. I am a little surprised though: in all the compact cassette revival madness NO manufacturer has jumped in in the demanding for a high quality walkman 2.0... not even Sony.
The 2018 walkmans are all low end, not functional besides transfering cassette music to pc instead to be a gadget everyone wants to have, that you can plug with your smartphone to make mixtapes of your mp3's.
I would definitly commercialize it if i was boss of TPVision/Philips: bringing back the old school technicians and show the world how quality is made with clever 2018 features in it (think wifi/bluetooth/chromecast).

Thanks. I had been looking for the number and a photo of that D8892 CD Boombox for some time. One of the very first. A friend of mine had just bought one the last time I saw her in 1989. I was very interested but it cost about £200 which was a bit expensive for me back then. Did anyone else have or still have one ?

An amusing thought looking through the catalogue. All you need now is some Black Ash shelving to put the gear on. I did have that and still have a bright yellow Roller 2.

p.s. If you go up the directories other years are available along with a couple of other manufacturers.

Yup. Love the boxy styling of the N2002 as well.

Thanks! It's always nice to browse those vintage electronics catalogues.
