Hi there my name is warren I am into music players/recorders in particular cassette tape devices, I have fixed loads of machines but I most enjoy restoration of AIWA machines! Welcome aboard Shaman32 AIWA is one of the most popular brands for collectors, unfortunately many AIWAs suffer the capacitor issues. So please hare some of your experiences of fixing Aiwa walkmans
Hi there boodokhan thanks for your welcome, yes indeed the Aiwas are the most problematic I think that is part of the enjoyment, you know that satisfaction of a challenge met and in this case you actually get to listen to the results directly! I do plan to post some methods that I use and my interpretation of faults and causes of such faults and how to rectify such in carrying out restoration projects. Not sure how to structure it yet I suppose I could start with a list of basic stuff that is typically used in these works equipment/tools/new parts/Donnor parts/ Cleaners/lubrication/ Keeping it all organised etc.... Got a few restorations coming soon (Marian is expecting my parts order anyday now!) I will try to log them and post it up here on ST2Go, I normally get into a Zone when im involved in a restoration and logging/photographing whilst doing the work would take some getting used to but I have got a bit to share so I will try and give it a go! Greetings. Why does that make me think of the character Joey from the Carla Lane TV series Bread ? (which will mean nothing to anyone outside the UK or under the age of 30) Many people doing repairs find it extremely useful to take photos when dismantling a unit. Then when a wire snaps off, a spring comes unhooked or you find you have a part left over after reassembly you can refer to the photos to see how the unit was originally made.
Hi Longman, Very interesting, I must confess that I Do like Sony quality in their designs, but I think AIWA has the sound that I like the most! I have been talking pictures of my disassembling activities for a while now it is a form trail as in Hansel and Gretel Although the birds would have eaten the crumbs they had left and scuppered their plans! Not so with mine I have detailed files! Although I have not considered publishing anything, until now! I suppose that part of the reason I am happy to share my experience is because I think the community here benefits everyone including myself. Good to meet you! Warren
Hi there great emoji yeah I'll see what I can do I'm taking some photos now whilst doing the works at various stages usually when I get a cup of tea but that's something I've not done before!
