My small collection of TDK MAX90 Tapes. I recorded some of my classical music on to these tapes back in the early 90's from a Sony CD 222 es d player on to a Sony TDK 777 ES tape deck. What type of music have you recorded on to your metal tapes? The second picture is a collection of classical tapes in a case on type 2 tape that I found in a charity shop a out a year ago. For 5 pounds could not resist buying it.

I have never recorded to Metal my players weren't that good and the tapes were super expensive, as kids we all seemed to stay away from them but nobody in the neighborhood had a high end tape-deck. Those are great collections, I try to pick up Metal Tapes, used or blank, but have only found maybe 15 over the last 15 years.
@Derek marshall : for 5 quids that is a Catch!!! I should get out of my SweetSpot for ‘fishing’ more often! Never recorded any classical: CDs and LPs worked for me wish I could see your fav tunes written onto cassettes... I love hardware, esp hi-end, but knowing what my friends are listening to is like ‘being john malkowitch’, like actually knowing someone... Shall dig into @TooCooL4 mind tomorrow
Thanks Jorge. I always wrote in pencil on the tabs so just in case I wanted to erase it but never had to. Trying to photo, even in day time, the pencil writing is very difficult to see.
Jorge I hope you don’t find anything sinister in my mind. Derek I just write on them in ink as I never re-record over anything, example below. Only bad news is my writing is atrocious.
I enjoyed looking through @TooCooL4 's collection and seeing which Albums I have and which I would like. ABBA Greatest hits Vol 1 and 2 were probably the first LPs I recall buying, back when they were in the charts for the first time. Within the last year I bought Cathy Dennis "Move to this" on VHS tape after finding I couldn't watch the video on Youtube due to copyright problems. When that happens it just makes me far more determined to see it. Like Mister X my highest end tapes were TDK Ds or Sony HFs. I am impressed by how organised TooCool4 has all his music. At one point I tried to set up a database of my music but that was manually entering everything into a Microsoft Works database and the novelty soon wore off. For CDs Windows 8 does it for me although PrintScreen doesn't seem to work in Media Center. Interestingly TooCool4 has a Banarama Album I don't have.
Chris. Like you I have never recorded tapes as I used to check everything was right before I a totally started recording. Always liked the look of a well sharpened pencil. F
Longman like you, years ago I was writing an Access database to store all my music. When I saw the program I use now, I jumped on it. Getting everything on it took a while, but it was worth it. Now I just add anything new as soon as I get it. The main reason for getting the program in the first place was to stop me buying duplicates, I have lost count of the amount of times I come home with a new album only to find I already have it. Now I pull out my phone and check to make sure I don’t already have what I am buying before I buy it.
@TooCooL4 - Yes!!! There was nothing more frustrating than getting 180g Miles or Tchaikovsky,... waiting,... then breaking the seal, playing... and then placing it on the shelf next to the exact same copy I had bought for my dear self for my previous birthday!!! Makes you feel not just stupid, makes you feel much worse: OLD!!! Good news: all those headaches are behind me, these days I spin Technics SL-1200 donated to me by @Boodokhan with just a few dozen LPs bought for next to nothing from our local Malibu library Like when I were young and penniless
I've got a crap load of duplicate albums because people were dumping their collections on me, I asked the local record shop what the big sellers were and he mentioned: Journey, Styx, Foreigner, etc... Looks like I'll be a millionaire one of these days. As far as cassettes, I've only had one tape dump which was cool but about 1/2 were country and not the Johnny Cash Style.
@Jorge it’s not so much feeling old or stupid. What happens to me is when I have been after a record for a long time, it sticks in your head when I find that record I must buy it. So when I find it and I think oh I have been after that for a long time, so I buy it. The funny thing is I forget I had already bought it some time back, because all I could remember is I have been after that record for a long time. Anyway I don’t have this problem anymore, since I can instantly check. The only time I pick up duplicates these days is because I want a better copy of something I already have.
When it comes to CDs I have bought them in Charity Shops knowing I have them already (somewhere). When you see a copy an album you paid £13 for back in the day in the three for £1 bin I find it hard to resist. The money is going to a good cause, it is useful to have a spare copy to play at my Mums or in the car, and it is cheaper than Spotify and less hassle than burning a copy onto CD. I am sure that some people get a smartphone, subscribe to Spotify, and then a few months later decide to take their entire CD collection to a Charity shop. Things are very different from when I used to go to a local second hand shop who sold second hand CDs for the bargain price of £8 each.
I'd love to get rid of about 1/2 of my stuff but time is an issue. It's nice that albums are getting popular, I'd rather give the albums away to a good home. I have a hard time with Spotify and the rest of the streaming services, maybe it's unjustified but it's just like radios, if I see a ton in front of me I go into panic mode. I like buying boxes one at a time, over time and I like music spread over different genres and sometimes hard to access or find. In the early days of the internet there were blogs that were posting early 80's punk and new wave mp3's, stuff I never heard or had some limited exposure too. Those were good times, searching Alta Vista and Lycos for those cool old independent releases, it made the music sound so much better.
I think if I got on Spotify I would spend my time looking for what isn't there. I also don't like the idea that Ed Sheeran and Adele would probably be getting 90% of my money. A friends daughter released a single and (with difficulty) bought the download simply to support her. How many people here know that Cassette Comeback has produced some great music ? https://villarosso.bandcamp.com/album/tears-in-rain-feat-megan-mcduffee Despite being available to listen to for free on Bandcamp I bought a couple of the downloads, so as long as the hard disc (just backed up) survives I will have them, and hopefully he will get Megan McDuffee in to make some more.
