Denon H5 - I used to own one back then but due to moving places to places I've lost track whereabout the unit. Since then I have relentlessly trying to search for one and finally.. It's getting very rare and even if one up for sale it will never appear in good condition. And guess what my perseverance pays off...
So today I worked on this unit. Fxing the amp as it doesn't sounding properly, motorboating output and intermittent stereo disconnection. I also convert the phono in to render auxilliary line in bypassing the pre amp circuit. Tracing the circuitry.. Found the root cause, interconnect with crack solder!!
I check once in awhile but have never seen one for sale over here, I don't think they were ever sold here. Great find, they look pretty nice and the front panel is one of the best looking for that era.
I had a dennon egg once, it was made by sharp though, nice looking box congrats my man i may still have a yamaha egg but this one is made by panasonic
A nice catch!! It was also in a different colour - pics from an old S2G or maybe BBXery don't remebber already..
Looks like Denon quality - nice. A good array of features & the speakers look decent too (I'm hoping that oblong shape at the bottom is a well-tuned bass-reflex port). What a strange arrangement; with the amplifier separate, but the function selection (tape/tuner/phono) not part of it...
Denon certainly "went their own way" with respect to product styling. Even their cassette tapes were unique and expressive.
I watched half of it. Separate speakers, made of wood. Separate amp on the bottom. Tons of lights for each mode, he likes. A holder for a cassette on the top. He had it opened up and cleaned inside, said he was impressed with the "industrial" quality, the sheer number of bolts made an impression on him. I wish he showed what is inside, also I wish he split it into the components. The ad above with a surfer girl holding this boombox - I wonder either she is strong, or the boombox is too plasticky, or she holds a cardboard movie prop
I guess Denon didn't do a good job marketing this model, because it's very rare. Maybe it was too expensive, or they didn't have a good sales network.
I subscribe to Stereophile for over quarter-century now (and until 5 years ago it was also 'The Absolute Sound', 'What HiFi' and 'HiFi+") and I could not help noticing that companies which take a hint from the car industry and use sexy-ladies in their ads - they disappear from the field within 5 years. Different crowd of males, myguess... When Russian was my first foreign language we kids joked that there is not such thing as 'swear words' in Russian - those are 'the article' (there is no such thing as 'the articles' in Russian but bad words, at least in spoken Russian among kids, are being used as often as if they are). Going thru the pains of English and French tutoring I used to console myself that I am already a polyglot: fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and Swear Language
Ya, this guy has SOOOOOO MANY nice units. He sells on Ebay as well. Very pricey though. but he has quite a lot of very nice very rare units.
