    Hello everybody,
I'm the happy owner of 2 walkmans Aiwa HS-P303 (the one my parents bought me when I was young) and a HS-P202 MKIII I recently bought.
I'm trying to make these great objects live and it is not easy for a newbee.
Hope to find some useful topics here and share this new passion with you.

    Welcome to Stereo2go Mighty Mightor

Technically and realistically your Aiwa's are not Walkman, Walkman is a Sony brand name, it's like calling a Dyson or any vacuum cleaner a Hoover. Hoover is a brand in it's own right.
So your Aiwa's are personal stereo's :nwink:

You're right, this forum is probably the only place where people make this difference. Everywhere else, if you want people to understand what you're talking about, just replace "portable stereo cassette player" by "walkman" and here we go !

I never said portable, I said personal. Portable can be a Boombox etc.
Yes I understand what you are saying about the general term, but since you are on here I thought I'll give you the correct terminology just in case you did not know. :nwink:

The term "walkman" has become rather synonymous with any small portable player which is commonly enjoyed with the use of headphones. Especially the ones that have a provision for a shoulder strap. I dont think anyone, anywhere in the USA is going to be confused by referring to an Aiwa HS-303 as a "Walkman". I know that I called my Panasonic J55 a walkman from the moment I got it in 1983. I think I called every copier ever invented a "Xerox machine" well into the 90s. Nobody ever corrected me and nobody was ever confused by the misnomer.

Reflex85 I never said most people are confused, I still like to give people the correct information rather than letting them learn the wrong things.
Yes no one ever corrected you, me I correct people so the have the correct information and if they chose to use the wrong information at least they know the correct info.

It's like breaking the rules, you can break the rules once you know the rules but at least you know what you are doing rather than not knowing.

I was hitting the garage sales yesterday and I say boomboxes or walkmans? and they know what I'm talking about. Japan is hard because you say boomboxes? and they have know idea what you want, you have to say something like portable radio cassette and then they might know but you have to say it in Japanese.

Welcome to the forum Mighty Mightor! Grab a good screwdriver set and take/post photos, most of the equipment needs a belts and maybe new solder on the headphone jacks, skills that can be easily learned and kind of fun.
