I would love to, having had one which got destroyed by leaking batteries (thank you Varta). What was the cheapest of the Casio CZ range is now the most valuable. For now I will have to make do with a CZ1000 and CZ230S
I picked one up a few years ago when the prices were still reasonable. It's pretty small but the layout is beautiful, a little more high-tech looking then most consumer models. I also have a Peavey KB 100 Amplifier (KB for keyboard) that is a great match for the old keyboards and can be found for pretty cheap. I'm not a player but I love messing around with them.
Yes the CZ1000 is much bigger but isn't as nice to use due to the membrane switches, which is actually a thin plastic sheet (which wears through and looks scruffy) over the top of tactile switches. The only plus is full size keys, and they aren't great, and aren't required if using it over MIDI. A shame that they never made a module version CZ. I do have the official Casio emulator on my iPad but haven't done much with it.
I have one of the larger ones, maybe the CZ 1 or VZ 1, I've never fired it up but it has full size keys. Another find from years ago at the thrifts for dirt cheap, back then if you were looking you could find some really decent models for a few dollars. Nobody wanted them but I loved grabbing the more interesting ones, especially if they had drum pads. I was just watching 8-bit guy while doing the dishes, someone sent him a huge Casio with large rotary dials on the top and ROM slot, I've got the same model up in the rafters. It's been hard lugging some of these big ones over the years.
Happy Birthday to me It was only a bargain compared to the original RRP. The first working one I had seen for under £200 in a long time (probably due to the marks and stickers).
Not as much as an M90 There are usually a few CZ101 on eBay "Buy it Now" but in the £250 to £350 range which was more than I was prepared to pay. I actually paid £100 for the previous one about 25 years ago but it was in better condition until the batteries I had deliberately left in it to run the back up memory leaked all over the circuit board. They weren't even flat when I took them out, just leaking I guess pictures like this add to the appeal of the CZ101 I think that is a genuine picture of Vince Clarke's setup at one point. He was still using the BBC Micro with 5 1/4" Floppy Drive on the left of the photo when I saw Erasure in concert in 1997.
I've got a couple other Yamaha Drum Kits, I hadn't seen this one before, maybe one of the first models? They're fun to mess around with and actually sound pretty good through an amp, it looks like this one is easily found of Ebay, I'll have to keep an eye open. Yamaha DD-5 from 1988
