A lot of people are looking to buy a good Sony DD walkman..... Often they pay skyrocked $$$$ I find iT interesting what die-hard S2G walkman collectors value the best of DD series Lets take 2 criteria: -good looking , fully operational with cracked gear -good looking , fully operational with repaired gear ( or good last generation gear) DD30 DD33 D3 D6c DC2 DD9 DD100 So, what are "reasonable" prices???
DD30 - 50€ - 150€ ?? DD33 - 50€ - 120€ ?? D3 - 100€ - 200€ ?? D6c - 150€. - 250€ ?? DC2 - 180€ - 300€ ?? DD9 - 300€ ?? DD100 - 300€ - 450€ ?? Something like these?
Not really sure what your question is but only 2 on that list i would buy and i can give you the max prices i would pay in £'s for them. WM-D6C i would not pay more than £180 for one in perfect condition. WM-DC2 i would not pay more than £120 for one in perfect condition I have 3 WM-D6C's 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen. 6 WM-DC2's, 1 WM-DD9 and many WM-DD33 but only 1 WM-DD33 that works. The ones that get used are WM-DC2 and WM-D6C. The WM-DD9 and WM-DD33 never see the light of day, the WM-DD9 is so over rated and over priced. I don't know why people fall for the hype of the DD9?
Hi TC4 IT was not a question in General... Just ask the opinion of what is the right price to give for DD series walkman.... As you would no more then 120£ to spend for a mint DC2, i ask myself , is iT today Some kind of realistic amount? I would be very very happy to buy Some of yours for that price even if only very good condition... A D6c for 180£ mint? Maybe..!? As for the DD9, i also do not understand the hype.... I hope to read what other members think About the real value of the DD 's in today's world....
I don't know if the prices i am willing to pay is realistic for today, but that is what i would be willing to pay if i was going to buy one today. No i do not want to sell any of mine, they all get used as i rotate them so the same one is not used all the time.
D3 $20 -$400 D6C $30-$1000 DC2 $30- $900 DD9 $50- $1500 So for example I will pay $20 for a D3 coming from a war zone, completely ruined and most of the parts missing. But if the same model is in brand new in original box and included accessories and restored condition (by specific people like Marian, Doctor Walkman, Sergi, Bub) then i will pay $400. By the way this is the price i will pay and doesn't mean anything else.
@TC4 i was only joking About buying yours.... @Boodokhan , i think that are realistic indications, new boxed with all the extra's are a good investment, but of course , not to be used....
No it is not for investment at all. It is to look at them and enjoy the beauty of these vintage electronics. I use some of them periodically and some of them are just sealed and kept for collection purpose.
Boxed new ones of 1000€ using? I do not see the point... If you can buy almost new ones for 250€? And the things that made that price so high as box, papers... Is just to look at....
If it has been restored by specific people, that is all the more reason to use it. Else you can just have a broken but cosmetically perfect one in a box to look at. To each his / her own.
If you can find one at that price I would buy it immediately; today's prices are definitely out of control, but even 2~3 years ago a DC-2 in good working condition (which implies not so good cosmetic conditions) required at least 300 EUR.
Right! I would buy a dozen at 120!!! How is iT that makes the D2C so special?? Why? Can Someone explain iT to me?
The DC-2 is a DD on steroids: refined mechanics, refined electronics, Dolby C and, most important, an high quality amorphous head with a wide frequency response. Back in the days, to justify it's over-the-top price it was marketed as "professional", though I hardly see the point of a professional playback only machine. Never owned one and, given today's absurd prices, I have given up looking for it.
To put it simply it sounds fantastic, it's the next best thing to my D6C. It's a smaller unit then the D6C, so the DC2 is my everyday machine with the line out of it into my amp to my headphones is just very nice sound. When i want the best i take my D6C out.
Hi TC4 But i think my D3 and D30 are also very good..... I listened and listened and listened 1000x to same cassettes on them..... And i try to solve the mystery , to find the secret soul of the DC2..... Or maybe is the quality of my cassette recording not ok? I use a Revox H1 with TDK MA / SA-X and other good quality tapes.......
I cannot really remember listening to a D30, but i have to say i am not impressed with a D3. The D3 is a cheap cut down version of the D6C and they did a bad job of it. The D3 to my ears does not have the gravitas of the DC2, DC2 much better.
Do you have a recommandation of IEM or headphones that can make the different? (Not the exotic high$$$ ones) I am Some kind of basshead.... I use now the hifiman 400 , triplefi 10, bose quietcomfort 20
