I just read a post on a Japanese Website that said the White WM-2 was only available in Hokkaido, trying to find more info!
Found this, the full website will be posted in this section, it's pretty cool but not really related. https://tecstaff-jp.translate.goog/...uto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp
It looks gold alright but probably custom painted , damage to the "BATTERY" letters seem to be also gold not flaked paint .
nice, didn't even know this one exists. in fact it does look more like tha champaign-colour they had (i have f.ex. a champaign colour wm5)
Speaking genuine factory wise it's the first time I see a WM-2 with "WALKMAN" logo and "PLAY" button instead of "FWD" although through the transition period there were WM-2s with "WALKMAN II" logo and "FWD" button.
Yes, the combination itself leads to many questions. Older details: Walkman logo without II, small window Newer details: Play-Button, SerialNo. around 490000, Sticker (okay the position is also strange) But the case itself looks authentic. The same look and feel of a used silver one. Also typical signs of use like scratches and missing paint on a corner. I got it from a regular Japanese electronics thrift store with no other special articles.
It looks like a mix and match from different units indeed. Is the color in this eBay listing the same? https://www.ebay.com/itm/303392546003 Text on the housing is not.
Cool find! I'm wondering if it was a reward for something, Japan only, I can't find any gold units on the net.
Well to be honest the most convincing part is the silk screened printing over the painting , it's not impossible to do but it needs super skills and effort from an individual and then you ask yourself why , the missing paint on the corners is how the damage on the "BATTERY" letters I mentioned before should look like , very confusing.
Long ago I bought a silver DD, because of a similar picture. I thought it would be the golden version Now I know, the golden one has black prints instead of white.
