Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to the hobby. I recently found an Akai PM-01 walkman in a thrift store which I immediately thought was a little treasure. This type of tech is pretty new to me as i'm a millennial so cassettes were rarely used in my upbringing but I find this find to be very interesting. So, I suppose my intention with this forum is to learn more about it.
Welcome Rich, I almost envy you being able to discover tapes for the first time. Experiencing the warmth of analog sound vs digital. Your first tape collection, you have so much to enjoy. Welcome to the site and feel free to ask anything, there are tons of helpful folk here.
Yeah, I was blown away by the quality. Why does everything new sound so much worse? Quality has gone way down hill. By any chance can you point me in the direction of someone who might know about the Akai pm-01 I found? I think it's a neat piece of technology but there's very little about it on the internet.
Hello Rich and welcome to the forum Your walkman Akai PM-01 originally comes with a cassette tuner, i hope you got the tuner as well.,. It is hard to find one
I did, and it works great! I didn't even know those existed before getting the Akai. The only thing I didn't get was the blue case it comes with unfortunately I think they got separated at the thrift store I got it from. They probably threw it away not knowing what it was. I looked all over for it. That was a little bit of a disappointment, because I'd like to have all the pieces together. Other than that for a piece of tech that was released 11 years before I was even born, I'm blown away by how cool it is and the shape it's in. It's also got that built in mic so you can sing along or hear noise around you while listening to music. What a smart idea! I don't understand why new tech is so copy and pasted from year to year now. It's kind of sad.
