Thought members might enjoy some shots of my Akai PM-R2 I have the bundle with the external cassette-sized radio unit (fully working), speakers and the 80s carry case It's taken a while to get it working properly - with no service manual I started to think maybe there was no speed trim pot. A second dismantle with a magnifier and lamp and I realised the Akai team were having a bit of fun with us by hiding the pot in the most obscure location.. All sorted now, using Marian's speed calibration tape naturally. New belt and a thorough clean and it's sounding pretty good. I have my tried and trusted 'Debussy Test' - if my favourite classical piano sounds stable.. It has impressive bass, plenty of detail and it's nice to have a machine that is so different in design to my Sony and Aiwa Walkmans. I understand that they re-badged some of their players for TEAC - have any members got one of these? I put 'rare' in the heading - based only on what eBay has to offer.. BFN
This was my first personal stereo I bought with my own money. It took me 2 weeks money from my summer job, I paid £70 for it. Happy memories.
Very beautiful Walkman. I have this tuner cassette that works with my Akai PM-06 which is a detachable Walkman/boombox
