Hi guys, Last sunday I visited a little car boot, and felt on this beauty... Before cleaning : I negociated it for 20€, thinking it wasn't working (no sound at all, but after inspection I found it was set on external speakers) !!! And the thing came with 10 fresh batteries in the originals tubes too !!! After a little cleaning : Radio is OK, sound is so goood, with strong bass, far better than my beloved Sharp GF9494... Really impressive, never heard a sooo good sound from a boombox... There's no life coming from the cassette deck, but I can hear the motor, so I guess I must rebelt it. But the problem is that both cogs (take-up and supply spindle) felt in bits, the first one the day I bought it, while just re-inserted the tape, the second one the next day... Brittle old plastic, and known problem as I have read. So I'm after 2 cogs (not the too brittle original ones), I read they are the same (well not exactly but they fit well) but in far better quality in Sharp GF-8989 (and I saw in my 9494 too, but I won't remove them), or Panasonic RX series, Teac V40, Aiwa 950... If somebody has these parts, please PM your conditions And I'm after both antennas too, one is missing, the other is broken. Cogs of my GF9494 : I'll make an order soon at turntableneedles for the belts...
Nice score, gorgeous box with a gorgeous deck but a tricky one to rebelt. The cogs you mentions can be taken from a few boxes as mentioned, i had the same issue.
Nice....please take pics of the speakers when you open it up, I want to learn if they're the same as my M9998K ones
loads of ariels https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...pic.TRS0&_nkw=replacement+telescopic&_sacat=0 good luck with the repairs
Hi all, Ok, will do that... Thanks for the link, I'll give an order soon... For the moment, I'm waiting for the belts...
Thanks, please take a pic of both the front and the rear of the woofers. Someone said they are different and "better" than the M9998K ones, and I'd like proof.
Hi, Having not find the 2 cogs, I decided to try to make them myself ! So I picked up the 2 spindles on an old dead Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128K+2 tape recorder, cut them with a Dremel, sanded them inside with a little file, and the result is perfect !!! Now I'm in a hurry the belts arrive home...
Not opened yet, but I found an interesting information on both M9998 and M9998K service manuals : The tweeters have the same part number, but the woofers have different number : 4-151T-31800 for the 9998 and 4-151T-32500 for the 9998K, so quite sure they are not the same...
The K model has chrome center-caps, so the different part number is understandable. But I am wondering if anything else is different, like the material used for the surrounds. A few years ago a former Sanyo technician claimed that the 9998 made more bass because its woofers were more softly suspended or something.
I have the K model but this is on my back-log of box's to repair, sharing 2 pictures. Someday I will re-belt this and then sell it.
My belts arrived so I opened the box... I marqued all the plugs and wires I disconected with model kit paint, and took a lot of pictures... The woofers. So Reli, are they different from those of 9998K ?
I took a moment & looked through the grills of mine with a flashlight and the ( K ) model I have, seem to be cloth but I am not certain, as I am inside an different model today...
Work in progress... Yesterday I removed the chassis. The 3 small belts are in good condition, but the flat one has turned into goo !!! I have to clean that...
