Hello there, I am a fan of the YouTuber Techmoan, I always liked the cassette as a medium but never thought that it has such a vibrant community. Yesterday I was in a garage sale and I noticed this Philips Classic Pocket Memo 388/LFH388 Portable Mini Cassette Recorder. I thought that it was a nice bargain for 1£ (I estimated that it would worth around 15£) and I just wanted to play around with it. The shock. Afterward I discovered that the price of this item in Amazon is £263.01 (?!) and the most strange thing is that this item has never been opened and the batteries never been removed (instruction manuals included). The Philips shop in Amazon has a damaged inner packaging due to battery removal. Does anyone knows the reason why this particular item has such a high value ? Also, is it better to keep it or sell it ? The only sad thing is that I don't want to use it because I think that is better to let it remain untouched. Please share your thoughts !
As someone who has sold hundreds of items on Ebay, I have found there is often a big difference between the Buy It Now prices and what someone is prepared to pay at auction. The only real way of determining prices is what people have actually paid in the past. Amazon seems to be similar although after one attempt at selling on Amazon I found that most sellers were using Automated pricing algorithms. At the beginning of the week I was the cheapest and at the end of the week one of the most expensive. List yours for £50 and see how quickly the other seller drops to £49. I think you have a good buy there for £1. Looking at Ebay someone did pay over £100 for one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-PHIL...214863&hash=item2ccd648af2:g:ZZ4AAOSwzRFaV5IV although £40 seems to be more of the going rate http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Philips-P...264752?hash=item4415c8e9f0:g:ffwAAOSwUg9aaaBR I have no idea why although outsiders probably think the same about Walkmans
Yes, I suppose that there are fluctuations in the prices but every buy it now is far above £50. Also the Amazon one is sold by philips itself (with only 2 remaining), so I will wait a little more before I list it. I am curious about the price because in terms of design and manufacture quality there are better voice dictation devices with lower prices. Maybe it is superior in terms of functionality. but, I am starting to wonder if it was part of a Hollywood movie or a tv-show...
