Nice site ! I have about 12 "walkman" type personal cassette machines and only a few will play cassettes. I'm looking forward to gaining some knowledge and making a few repairs . I have worked on electronics for over 40 years from doing everything from Guitar Amp. , pawn shop and radio station repairs to building transmitters and restoring old tube Hi Fi .units . I also have a a few FCC tickets and have been known to work 2 /6M am from time to time . KC8HGQ

Thanks! I have a collection of about 300 reel to reel machines but none from USSR/Russia. Did your country have an official electronics brand ?
Do you know of any reel machines that were produced in the late 40's-early 50's ?

    Wow Matt,
you got 300 reel to reel machines :reelspin::reelspin: ???:thumbup::thumbup:

I have about 400 walkmans and had to let some go due to lack of space. How do you manage your reel to reel collection ? you should have a huge office to accommodate them.
i would love to see your collection.

Well ..when I built my house I dug the basement an extra foot deep and added a door to the outside-a "walk out" if you will. My friend used to work for United Artists and when they closed up their shop in Cincinnati I drug home about 6 film racks and modified them to store/display/stack machines. I have gear strewn about the house and a very understanding wife. But Just one machine on the ground floor and a Nagra upstairs ! I could send some photos but I thought this was the portable cassette site.

Sure, mate, there were reel to reel's "Back in the USSR". :)

Here you can find some info on them, Google Translate will help.
Including those from 40-50's. Hope you will enjoy them, I do like reel to reel's too.
    Oldies but goldies. :)

I sat and stared at those great websites for hours ! Excellent photos and information. I'm thinking maybe some of those machines made their way to Cuba or Canada-maybe some day I will see one ! Thank You very much for those great sites ! I'm thinking about posting some photos and information of some of my collection.
Did you ever see any wire recorders in Russia?

On the web I have some photos of a few of my Presto machines and one group of those made in Ohio (Ohio Recorders) . Google should find them

Matthew, you are much welcome! Glad you liked those.

As for wire recorders - never seen one myself but heard something.

Ah, sure, I am a keen fan of aviation - wire recording plane black-box recorders
which had been widely in use on aircrafts before digital ones replaced them.
But that's professional highly specialized equipment.
I will check with my forum guys on the rest - maybe they will advise. :)
