Hey guys.. I have a beautiful wm-F20.. which I am trying to get working.. she powers up fine and after some cleaning of the selector switch the motor spins correctly as it should.. the problem being there is no audio at all from the headphones in either FM or Tape modes.. not even a crackle.. I suspect that the Jack itself may be at fault. But I thought I would worth asking if it could be anything else.. or if this is a common problem with these models . Thanks in advance
I was about to post in here for a boombox as this in the place for boomboxes ... Check your capacitors in the audio circuit as they may need to be replaced it's fun to try that first. as sony is famous for having caps that just fail for all kinds of reasons. I have a few walkmans but I have not had time to get to them just yet as I am still working on the bigger portables. Here's a old picture of mine of stuff that is now all in packing box's somewhere ok I will share three pictures FULL SCREEN ok
Whoops My bad !!... thanks mate.. will check the audio caps next.. I bet they are smaller than a grain of rice on this thing ! That's a nice collection you've got there
Other than that, might be worth it to check the flex cable to the radio section on the lid for continuity. Been a while since I've poked in one of these but I remember solving an issue by fixing a break in the flex. As for caps, for WM-10 to W800 types, there are nearly no modern equivalents that fit 100%. I've found that the narrowest caps in my list fit, but sometimes at odd angles/mounting, including modifying SMD caps to fit sideways. See if you can find through holes.
@Cassette2go I was wondering what are those cute little radios on the bottom shelf... and suddenly realized those are 6 (six!!!) El Diablos... Mamma Mia!!!
@bub Thanks mate.. hoping it's not the caps if that's the case! I most definitely don't trust myself with soldering things this tiny... the ribbons to the outer case do look to be in good condition with no tears or breaks.. but yeah I guess next step is to start checking all those traces for continuity.. thanks for the insight mate..
I had NINE RC-550's but I sold some. Present day I have 1 'very broken and needing the entire function switch linkage' JVC and 4 Victor's in the model rc-550.
Someone at boomboxery once said that Victors are the Thing, JVCs of the same are mickey-mouses(mice?)!!! And you got FOUR of them, Real Things!!!!! Wow!
Been a while since I've poked in one of these but I remember solving an issue by fixing a break in the flex.
