Hello, I've been collecting tapes for a little over 6 months now and have fallen in love with the medium all over again. I've got about 120 cassettes, a nice Yamaha K-903 deck and a Panasonic RX-ED50 'boombox'. I'm looking to get a Sony walkman but that pool is very deep, so I thought I'd sign up to ask some questions. I'll put up a thread in tech talk shortly. Thanks for having me.
Welcome Derb. Nice to hear that someone else thinks a more recent Panasonic is worth having. A future classic ? If not it will make the ultimate clock radio.
Thanks man. It's a fantastic unit honestly. I took a gamble buying it online with the seller saying the tapes ran too fast. Turned out it just needed new pinch rollers and a very light sanding of the capstans to remove some surface oxidation. When I put a speed test tape in it at a mate's place, it was literally within 1.5% of perfect speed. Haven't touched the speed adjustment. Thumps nicely for its small speakers too.
Here's a pic of my Yamaha K-903 dual well deck. My favourite feature is the relay mode, as I can pop in two cassettes and not have to get out of my chair for a while haha.
And this is my 'boombox'. This also has a relay mode which will play two cassettes back to back. There's a lot more hiss at higher volumes from this machine, but its acceptable and expected considering it doesn't have any kind of Dolby NR built in, not even HX Pro.
