If you haven't watched My Mate Vince, he's a hobbiest repairer. He loves buying broken vintage and modern game systems along with other random items and he tries to fix them. A lot of troubleshooting on the circuit boards means the videos are over an hour long but very facinating. He comes from my school of repair, finding out where the continuity ends. I found his channel searching for boomboxes with TVs, but now he's moved on to a bunch of Walkmans.

"I know nothing about Walkmans, there might be a massive community out there with different web sites how to fix them"

Thank you very much for sharing!

This is fantastic, after all I will have to take a look into my WM-2011 sometime soon. The timing couldn't have been more perfect for an in depth video.
I hope he'll also do a video on the WM-EX190 you could see for a brief moment in the video too as there's an issue I want to fix with it. :D

Vince is awesome, I love his style of troubleshooting, check out his game system videos, they're very interesting. The newest video in his Walkman Series is a Sony WM-FX10. Yes his choice of equipment is consumer grade but they all have the same issues at the end of the day and his lack of previous experience with Walkmans is just like most of us and the commentators are giving great information.

Thanks once again for posting this @Mister X !
With the help of My Mate Vince's WM EX190 video, I could track down the audio issue and suddenly the volume has healthy levels and doesn't crack anymore. Who would have thought this little bit of cleaning of the volume wheel was all it needed! :)
For other interested users or visitors with a similar or same issue, here's the video:

Note that the clips are a real pain as they're fairly small on this device. Despite opening it without breaking any, two gave in when I wanted to snap them back when closing the device. This thing was opened before though and it seemed to me like they suffered from the previous owner's attempts at fixing it, at least according to the scratches (which I couldn't have caused as I was fairly careful).
