I purchased a sony WM3 a few months back. I love it. There are a few scratches on the the door. Its mostly towards the left. And the faintest scratch towards the right. I like taking it with me but I'll just use it at home or for special occasion and use my sports or cheaper ones for my daily rounds. If I want to paint over the scratches how should I go about it?
When I have something I don't want to restore, I'll take a marker with a close color and go over the scratches. This can usually be undone if needed but I like a little patina and the marker will give it the 5' looks great feel with out overdoing it.
I'd be against repainting it. The original paint has a very nice kinda shining but silky smooth finish. The marker idea is a good one which I sometimes do as well.
I think it's beauty is in it's originality and if it were me, I'd totally ruin it by trying to 'restore' it, but that's just me!
It is very difficult to cover the scratch with marker or paint to look exactly as original color. So you can always see some type of discoloration there. So in my opinion don't touch it. But if you decide to paint it use some type of paint that can be removed in case the result is not satisfactory.
Its almost impossible to match the colour even with model paints. Recently I have had some success using nail varnish which is available in a huge array of colors and finishes including metallic reds. The advantage over paint is if it looks worse you can easily remove it with nail polish remover on a cotton bud without impacting the original paint finish. The real issue is not colour though. It's always getting the touch up to cover the scratch without the build up still looking unsightly.

Well the voices of reason say not to. My OCD says I should. But i love this thing too much to ruin it. Aged 38 years. Why ruin a good thing.
