Hey all, I used to frequently view this forum back in 2007ish and now I'm back!
Always drooled over the collections you guys had here and had always wanted to own a
really nice box myself as I had never had one.
Well I went looking the other day and ended up getting this guy from the original owner.

The Sharp GF-800! :) Let me know what you think!

Also I am going to be recording my own cassettes for this box and I'm not sure what I should go for. I've heard metal tapes have the best high range and overall best quality but I'm not super experienced with this stuff. Although I do know those mini reel to reel ones like the ones in the pics with my box look freaking amazing, I don't know if the sound matches lol. Also would you recommend me record the cassette using the box itself? Or would I be best off using something else?

Your GF-800 looks to be really clean. Was it like that when you got it ?

Welcome back! Great looking box, I've got an eye open for one, you never know where they will pop up but it's also slightly rare. I'd try recording on a variety of tapes both in the box and with a component deck to find the best sound. Metal tapes are pretty expensive and if there is a better sound, it might not be worth the upgrade.

I used to hang out more in the troll section (Walkmans) but I also liked checking out some of the amazing and unheard of portables. Over the last 10-15 years I've kept looking for the oddball ones and they do come up for sale but you might wait years. Now I think I have more boxes but some of those are minis and even some of them may be considered walkmans.

Welcome back! I have one of these as well, though mine has the clock section in the bottom corner

That looks awesome!!! How do these boxes sound?? I was going for the GF-909 originally but they were quite a bit more and honestly I think the 800 looks cooler.

I've not cranked it up for a while tbh, but the last time I used it I was pleasantly surprised with how it sounds. Mine needs new belts for the decks (obviously!) but line in and the radio work 100%.
