I am not sure if anyone would be interested on seeing this so, here are a few pictures. As you can see, this is a voice recorder from Phillips model LFH005/00 1973. It takes micro cassettes, but not the standard 80s cassettes. I attempted to use a regular micro cassette and it was slightly smaller but, only by a couple of millimeters. It runs on a 9V battery which I, tried and it seems to work . Still needs a clean up.
I have the exact same model, and i think it's a very cool design. Quite modern looking for something from the early 70's. The cassettes themselves are called mini-cassette, which is a standard format introduced by Philips just several years after they made the Compact Cassette. They look like the later-released micro-cassette but have a completely different tape transport. The mini-cassette is not designed with a capstan, so the spindles move at a constant speed.
What a coincidence , I found one also this Sunday ! It is in pristine condition with a very nice blue jewellery box , somewhere i read that when Philips was selling them as a bulk they had a pouch and individually had the box. Available online is also the service manual. Nice design , quality metal construction , a cute tiny speaker that looks like a downsized normal speaker , good stuff from the 70's. Congrats nice find !
Olympus and Philips went head to head on these, Olympus seem to win out in the end but they either shared the technology or licensed it. Philips had some great design going in the 70's, you could sit this on a desk today and it would just look good.
