They came and kicked some butt, the local papers called it one of the best of the year. Our local ice arena holds 18,000 for hockey, I don't know what they get for a show but it was sold out and they were blazing. This was a "best of" show so they played a ton of their big songs, they sounded great but it was a pretty big production and some of the music seemed a little silly when it was acted out. This was still a not-miss show and it's great to see them, after not really getting recognition in the Midwest until six or seven years ago, selling out up here now.
I feel you, my friend! I had the same angle at Roger Waters concert in Chicago years ago... the vapes of marihuana were soo thick we and my buddy even forgot about our beer-cooler
The force was strong around me but my bomber beers kept it at bay, at least that's what I remember......
I hit up another show on Monday, KISS with special guest David Lee Roth! I thought about this show for a long time before I bought the ticket, I like KISS, I saw them several times in the 80's without make-up and they always had great support bands but I really went for DLR, between 78-84 Van Halen was everywhere, played all the time and played loud! It didn't hurt that people used to say I looked like Eddie VH. Diamond Dave looked great and sounded his age, he didn't try to hide his voice and that was fine with me, he also ditched the feather boa which was also a good move. Some people may not know that Gene Simmons tried to get VH a contract in the mid-70s. I'm more of a club guy, music, sweat and beer, and a small stage, the theatrics are kind of annoying but it's KISS and they pretty much invented the big show. Little did I know that Paul Stanley was going to fly over my head. Still looking good in his twilight years, these guys have a lot of energy.
In the late 1970s a friend was well into KISS. I wonder if you guys even knew who they were then. Thanks to a friend inviting me to her birthday celebrations I actually went to see a band in a "club" (actually a hotel bar) for free last Friday. The Kingsmen are a good guitar based covers band doing numbers from bands like Chic. Not much sweat and beer though; more "Ladies of a Certain Age" drinking cocktails. They seemed to make up 80% of the audience (not that I have any complaints about that).
Gene Simmons was a marketing genius, I remember hearing about how much money he had in the 80's from group tie-ins and co-branding, he was the #1 earning musician. Over here, there was major saturation in the late 70's, KISS Toys, Magazines, Albums, Shirts, etc. Even as a kid this was a huge turn-off, way too much. We have those lovely ladies over here Longman, we call them MILFs, usually identified by the rhinestones in the back jeans pocket, of course I'd like to think I may be the male version, but they still support the music and sometimes know a ton more than me, it's always nice when they show up.
