    Hello all,
My name is Dimitar and I'm new it the forum. A few weeks ago I bought Sony TC K75 cassette deck . It was not working, but I was able to change the belts and the old grease. There was another problem with the record button which I managed to fix. The deck worked perfectly until a few days ago when it stopped playing sound. There are times when it works for a few seconds and then no sound again. I made two videos so you guys can get an idea of what the problem might be.I'll be really grateful if someone can help me.Thanks in advance:thumbsup2:

Can you hook up some speakers? it would help to hear it.

I'm not an expert but before I watched the video I was thinking Moniter Switch and then I saw you had a toggle for that switch. For my used and abused equipment, toggle switches hold up the worse. I'm playing with a new to me boombox with several toggle switches on it and they all need a good cleaning to get it working right. On the 3 position switch I can kind of hold it between two detents and it will work ok but the 2 position switches are really tough. I think you can just squirt some contact cleaner in there and work it good but you may need to pull the switch apart, some of these are fully closed or open on the back.

If the monitor switch is stuck in a "source" position, you should be able to hear your source playing through the player.

Just be careful, that's a beautiful tape deck.

I spray both switches with deoxit, doesn't help. No signal coming in and out.Really strange, because the mechanism is working. All the buttons are working, but there is no light on them.

The switch might not be open on the front, the lever may be on a ball that is closed similar to this one so no spray is getting in there. Some of the older style switches that slide more than pivot on a single axis are open but yours looks like it may be like this one.

What concerns me is,that the control lights die too. So I guess some element is damaged somewhere on the board.

I was wondering about that but without more information it could be several things and I don't know your technical ability. I'd put on some head phones, when the sound does kick in is it a clean start or scratchy followed by music. Do you hear scratchy sounds or low volume music when you play with the monitor switch?

Scratchy sounds usually indicate a switch.

My knowledge is really basic but I can test components and I can solder as well. No sound at all.

you must watch yourself now! That is exactly how this craziness started for me: bought MonsterPower conditioner,... it died,... I found one dead/burned part... and now, ten years later, I am surrounded with books on electronics and how to fix stuff. The good part: this is Fun!:) Welcome to the club!!!

the problem is, most of them just need a little tiny attention and once you know it you have a pile of them to fix.

And when you're a real beginner, you'll get piles of stuff you can't yet fix and so you end up with 2 piles like me. Fresh units to look into and half-dead units that "I'm not able to fix this yet, but I'll wait and learn and try again sometime" :read

When I started this hobby about 3-4 years ago I can't even use a soldering iron. I still can't believe I get by for almost a year trying to fix stuff without soldering/desoldering...
