@Mister X I'm not sure if the Boombox Deluxe is sold in physical stores over here. I'll have to look in for that. I love the fact it has VU-meters!

It's nice to see a brand like ION keeps pushing with new products when it comes to cassette boomboxes. I think it's a good thing because it keeps the ongoing development of cassette boomboxes alive and slightly better every-time. (read: the factories making and offering - like Panda, Lotte, Rising - the OEM-products) for Panasonic, Sony, Philips, ION.

Brands like Fiio, Nobsound, SMSL have fought their way and are now successful offering quality products (dac's/amps) and are well accepted by the consumer. Hopefully the same will happen with cassette player-brands: it takes a least two brands that feel the need to compete with each other as a katalysator. I think the "big" brands won't pull it of, shortcoming of inspiration. A smart now "oem"-manufacturer could introduce itself as a brand, making - a good - name for it's own by selling quality manufactured cassette players.

Finally, a manufacturer willing to spend money on chrome-plating plastic parts again.

People I have a good feeling that the new few years might actually see some big brands actually dipping their toes in the tape world again. Sony have been making their two boombox variants recently (the EU/Western model and the Japanese one that is obviously better :p), but I'd like to see some Panasonic hardware too. Panasonic's portable devices were often on par, if not better, than their Sony peers.

As far as i know of the "big" brands
    Panasonic is offering the RX-D55A,
    Toshiba the TY-AK1 and
    Sony the CFD-S70 and CFD-RS501

    I was surprised that
Philips offers the most cassette player boombox models!:
    AZB798T/12,
    AZ127 /12,
    AZ787/12,
    AZB600/12.

Since the Gibson Innovation's bankruptcy - what a disaster that was! - in 2018, Philips managed to get it's Philips Audio division back - including developing, personnel, and gave
TPVision the right to continue to develop Philips Audio products as TPV already successfully does with developing Philips televisions.
    Maybe the already collaboration with
Georg Jensen and Bowers & Wilkins promises more for a nice -portable/HiFi- cassette player as TPVision makes serious business developing and updating Philips audio devices as the recently presented X3 Headphones.

    :)

That Phillips azb 798T is quite good looking. At least someone’s tried!

Yes, it's a handsome compact cassette & compact disc boombox and rather complete too, including DAB+, FM, Bluetooth, USB, line-in, headphone input and stereo dynamic bass boost bass reflex speakers

Interesting that, from the rather small photo, the Panasonic appears to have a soft touch cassette deck. People have claimed that the Tanashin deck is the only one still made but I suspect there are other "in house" ones like that.

It looks the minor manufacturers are carrying the torch, I'd rather grab an Ion or GPO Brooklyn than the rounded 90's reissues from the former big boys, although I did see a neat looking little radio on the Sony Page. I wonder if the newer Ford Mustang would be a success if they had redone the 1974 model?

I suspect the Japanese Manufacturers are aiming at a different market. I'm tempted to say people who drive a Honda Jazz (Fit) who in the UK are usually over 70.

I have a feeling they sold millions of egg boxes and they can get those new reissues through corporate. I still see a million out and about and I usually cringe, wishing they were something different. They did have some really nice looking non-portable square radios I saw over there, that could have been easily updated to portable. This was on the Toshiba Site, it looks pretty good from the front but it has a rounded back, a few changes and this could have been a cool mini.

Agreed, ION Audio and GPO are targeting. In my opinion the "big" brands aren't targeting at all. Collecting dust.
I saw this JVC RC-D327B cassette Boombox.
I couldn't find this on the official JVC page, it's not listed on their global, Dutch and USA website... Looks very much like the Sansui and Aiwa's on my first post.

    I see Aiwa released a new boombox-model, the CSD-MV20B:

    RK200CD
    RK200DABCD
    RK250UCD
RK250UDABCD This one is the most "handsome" imo:
    PLL FM tuner ^DAB+ tuner^60 memory stations (30+ 30)^CD-MP3 player^Tape player / recorder^USB slot to read MP3 music^Display with backlight^AUX-IN 3.5mm^Headphone in (headphone not included)^Dual alarm, sleep and snooze^Power supply AC 230V or batteries 6 x LR14 (type C - UM2) 1.5V

I can't find any new boomboxes at CES 2020, you'd think at least one new one.....

I think JVC and Panasonic allow their names to be used on another company's stuff. Or, someone steals their name after the trademark expired in their country. This is common in the Middle East and certain Asian countries.

Here is a "Panasonic" for the Middle East. It looks very cheap, low quality. And I just don't think Panasonic would design something looking like that.

The Panasonic Site looks legitimate but for some reason kind of glossy and cheap, very odd for a huge electronics company. I was blown away that they have a smart phone line, but these companies have zero response for the portable tape player revival, every unit looks like entry level. It's hard to believe there's not one "reissue."

Great website SantiOriginal, did his documentary ever come out? The website hasn't been updated in a long time.
