Nice ads, do you have ads for D50, D150, D555 Discman? I would like to make some posters for my music room.
I double-posted one of the pages and fixed it to show the players...... Thanks Ken80s, I've been going through mostly 70's-80's magazines and recently started hitting up the 90's issues. The older issues are fun to check out just about everything, it seems there was a huge electronics race to build the coolest stuff possible but it all started mellowing in the 90's and the magazines aren't nearly as interesting but there's still some cool DAT, DCC and CD nuggets in the latter years. I'm also trying not to spam the forum, I like to post stuff when things seem slow around here, and kick a little life back in.
Those are the best Discman ever made during that era. How great if these metal Discman has the anti shock technology introduced a little bit earlier. Unfortunately the Discman in my collection most of them are non functional anymore either the lens is faulty or the plastic drive gears disintegrated due to aging. I hope I could to find a way to resurrect them one day.
The only repair work I've done on CD players is replacing hardend lubricants and broken belts. I know suppliers used to advertise the common parts that broke and they sold millions of these players, maybe we'll see NOS parts coming out of hiding. A lot of these parts are so small that a small box might have hundreds of gears or lenses in it and the owner might not know what they are.
Good that one tech guy with a clever head and hands growing from the right place was able to get my D-50 back to life, luckily the laser was OK, problems were with other parts - CD transport suspension and its flat cable. Even if they say that a D-50 was built like a tank nothing lasts forever.
@Mister X great find! Now I must update my never-ending project of Discmans specs/chips that D-90 has 2x digital filter! Never had this info before... Thanks again!!!!!!
I've been going down the Discman Rabbit Hole and have a backlog of articles Jorge, I've found a ton of cool stuff over at Archive.org and the American Radio History Sites with more in depth coverage of these players. Hope you enjoy, the forum didn't have a lot of coverage for these in the old days but they were still pretty young, now they're 20 years older and some have aged nicely.
