I've always loved Technics, the equipment looks cool and the turntables changed design standards in the 70's. Take a Technics SL-1500 from the mid 70's, put it up against what everyone had, either a Garrard or Dual (not the really nice ones). All were plastic but the Technics blew them away look-wise, the Garrards and Duals just looked cheap and felt cheap. Dual was a little better but I think Garrard was the largest TT manufacturer at one time and they really let their guard down in the 70's. I've got a 90's Technics SA SX500 Amp that still sounds good and is in the house, I've got a monster four channel amp out in the shop, that one is a stunner. What program are you using for you music files?
In the UK the Japanese turntables weren't cheap but were probably better quality. The only turntable I have bought new was a Garrard SP25 MK6 bought in 1979. The first one didn't work properly out of the box so my Father had to take it back and get a replacement. The headshell contacts on the second one were always a bit iffy. Why did I buy it? It was £50 when most Japanese turntables were approaching £100. At this time I was earning £25 a week. If there was a second hand market for HiFi separates back then I didn't spot it. Most people were putting together their first system to replace a Record player, Music Centre or Radiogram.
You guys probably got better quality from Garrard then what showed up over here. Even Technics Entry-Level TTs looked good and will still fire-up today with little tuning. The Garrards have so many moving metal parts underneath, it seems like they need a good cleaning to get the grease moving.
I am not sure if anybody else noticed the misspelling. Our brain automatically corrects this spelling and we don't really notice that. @TooCooL4 is a very detailed oriented person who noticed that. I had to go back and forth read it again and again to find out the misspelling. anyway, excellent observation by @TooCooL4 welcome aboard @Techincsdan82
Hi thanks ! yeah Technics are for sure the best ! I like to use WINAMP and all the plugins for my music flac files ! Old but still the best out there by miles !
I must say Technics are the best for turn tables ! they are still very expensive to be fair id love one but cant afford one at the mo ! I use an old SANYO music center model number G-2611KL its a solid state amp with a fantastic sound i have restored it ! got it some original SANYO speakers that would of come with it at the time i think around 1978/79 ?? i have put a sure stylus on it and its sounds perfect for what i want for now ! i also have an ERA turn table with an SME 3012 Series II tonearm with an Ortofon OM Pro S Cartridge & Stylus on it ! that does sound stunning .
