    Hello!
I recently replaced the center gear in my WM-F5 Sports Walkman and it worked fine for a little bit, But now it'll sporadically start making an odd crackling/static sound.
It sometimes works just fine and I can't find out what triggers the sound.

I've attached a recording of the sound
(Note: there's some interference picked up by my audio recorder, not the Walkman.)

    Thanks!

sounds electrical rather than mechanical. I am not sure.
Its hard to tell be listening to MP3. Its always better to place a video showing the gears in play mode.

I'm confused, is that the sound of the leader on the cassette? It sounds normal to me.

Otherwise I'd DeOxit the volume and inside the female headphone jack port. I've always had bad luck with the Sports Headphones, they're beautiful but they're also very delicate, the wires are prone to breaking. I just heard that copper wires tend to harden with use and lose flexibility. (YouTube, AvE Boltr...the best mechanical tool breakdowns, which can be like a lot of Walkmans)

The mechanism works just fine, the recording is a direct capture from the headphone jack at zero volume so it is solely an electrical problem.

I can't remember but I recorded the Walkman with either no cassette or in the middle of a tape and it was at zero volume as well. I'll try cleaning the headphone jack and re solder any wires later when I get the chance.
