    Hi all,

This deck was working fine until today. Started to make a loud screeching noise that is due to the capstan motor. I took some compressed air to the motor and now it won't record at all. If i try to calibrate the cassette, the VU led's go to max value. Adjusting the bias, rec levels don't do anything. When i try to record without any source audio and i press the monitor button to 'TAPE' i can hear the previous recording from the tape. Any idea what the hell is wrong with this. FYI the deck has been sitting for over 2 years. Worked fine when i used it over the last few days.

Ok never mind. Found the issue. A solder point for the recording head on the pcb was broken. Cleaned it up and soldered it again and now is working fine. Found few other old solder points broken also. But it does have a loud humming sound when recording. I'm still thinking it's the capstan motor. Screeching noise is gone but humming sound is there and is in the recordings also. Can someone recommend a new capstan motor for this model? I've read that the Mabuchi ones are quite poor in quality.
