Hey everyone, I have owned a Aiwa CS-R10 boombox for a while now and want to buy a compatible power brick for it. The unit takes DC-9V.. Does anyone know how many amps is needed for this boombox?

The service manual seems to be readily available but I haven't found a free one

    https://www.manualscenter.com/manuals/aiwa/csr10-service-manual.html#.X8iYANj7S70

Looking at the front sheet it says the power is 4W + 4W. Allowing for amplifier efficiency (typically 50%) I would say a 2A adaptor, which at 9V has the capability to provide 18V would be O.K. If using a linear adapter and you didn't crank up the volume to maximum you could probably get away with less, e.g. 1A. There should be no harm in going for a higher current capability as more amps will just mean the adapter is cooler running and has better voltage stability.

The most important thing is to make sure your adapter plug has the right polarity. There is a strong possibility that you will blow something up if you get it wrong.
I am actually quite pleased that the sample pages of the manual don't give a schematic as I can't tell you the wrong thing. Double check before connecting.

I'd just like to add that you don't need to match the current value (amps) because a circuit will draw what it needs. So just have enough available.
