Hello all, I'm glad to be part of this community, greetings from Japan though I'm not Japanese. I'm a musician, into electronic music and love tapes, lately have been using them in my projects. Happy holidays!
Welcome. I wonder if you have found any bargains over there, like this guy kept finding. https://jimatwood.wordpress.com/ We have had a few threads about electronic music keyboards going on here. http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/those-crazy-keyboards-from-the-80s.6260/ The Japanese more or less invented that product category. In the 1970s all that were available were home organs the size of a piece of furniture and professional keyboards like Moog synthesizers. Both cost as much as a new Motorbike so you had to be really serious about playing music to get one.
welcome and happy holidays to you too. among three walkman units you question, TCM-600 is a better unit, the other 2 are mickey mouse models ( that's what @Radio Raheem calls these type of equipment )
I don't have any of them so I can't offer input but welcome! I try to go to Japan in February every year but I don't think it will happen this year. I found a cool Chicago Deepdish Pizza and Craft Brew Place down by Akihabara that was really good last time. On a side note Dave Ellefson of Megadeth moved over there, awesome story of how he learned the language, loves the culture and takes full advantage of it. My ex-Tokyo Radio DJ buddy sends me YouTube clips of him on some of the goofy shows and jamming with J-Pop Bands.
Yeah! I have always wanted to use one of those, hope I get a chance to do so soon. Sorry for the late reply, I got pretty busy with work, work is killing me these days.
Thanks! Yeah I have found many bargains, both online and also on the streets, like there is a famous place called tcgakki which was even featured on a reverb.com article. Anyway, I have found many old unit at a super cheap price, specially online, but many of them are completely broken or need some sort of service so I'm trying to learn more about electronics, repairing walkmans, etc.
Thanks, yeah I guess those units are not that good but I actually have found tons of them around here at a super cheap price, though many are broken and I was thinking of getting some and getting into repairing and learning how to service them, hope I soon have time to get into that.
Yeah, hope things get better soon and you get a chance to come as soon as possible. Music scene around here is super fun and vibrant.
That's what I like over there, music is such a big part of life, every restaurant has a killer sound systems and even a lot of retail. Ton's of live music of anything you can think of. And then all of the instrument stores, it's like candy for anyone that likes to play.
