There seems to be at least two maybe three versions of this iconic box. I think the first one is the wrong even though it's labeled a 440. The second is looks like silver with a grey faceplate, the 440 has a purple background and it's hard to tell if the grills have the iconic propeller pattern. There's three sliding toggles switches on the left side and there seems to be a lot of words on the cassette door. The third is the most famous version, a grey body, blue faceplate and the 440 badge has a peach background. The spinning grills are the same color as the body.
@Mister X you have an eagle's eye Myguess there were two versions, with an ad showing a pre-production model. National RF-5410 which I promised to resurrect here is still in pieces and I just hope that when I get to it my iPhone photos of all those desoldered wires won't disperse into The Clouds The reason your post reminded me of my Panasonic: RF-5410 has two different face-plates, the one I have and the one for 'heavy-duty' handling which was on my eBay watch list for the last year: I like the looks of mine better, hope to resurrect it soon for the sake of posting something at my fav Beer&Boomboxes thread
Interesting, I wonder which one sold better! Hopefully your on the right path with that one, it would be a show-stopper. I was trying to dig up some information on the 440 and didn't realize there were different versions, I recently added one to my boomers. It's a nice mid-level box but the blue dial faceplate is really neat and makes it really standout. It's my first made in Singapore AIWA but it's still a hefty model.
