Hi all. It's been a long time since i've been on here. Haven't really bought any new Walkmans for the last few years. I am thinking of selling some from my collection. I have a WM-3 EX that I am thinking of selling but have no idea what price to on it. I've seen the WM-3 sell for over 1k. I have the player only so no box or other accesories.

    Hi buzbox,

That WM-3EX is a very nice walkman, I like the gold color a lot. Athough the prices have risen considerably, I don't think it's usual for a normal WM-3 to sell for over 1K. At least not if selling only the player itself.
If it's in like new condition, with box and all accesories it can sell for 1K or above (but the boxed ones are rare). There are a ton of people who are listing these walkmans for that money, but most are not going to sell them.
You need to look at listings that have been completed, because there are people asking unrealistic prices on these devices.

I bought a first-generation WM-3 in mint condition with leather case (the case not in mint condition) at an auction on ebay a couple of months ago for 400USD. The first generation is the one in the third picture on the forum's gallery.
I also sold a second-generation one on ebay last week, fully refurbished, but with a hairline crack on the cassette door window and other signs of usage at 180USD.

In my opinion, a first generation WM-3 is worth somewhere between 300 and 500 USD and a second generation between 200 and 400 USD depending on the cosmetic condition and if the unit has been refurbished. I'm talking here about the unit itself, without box or other accesories.

Given yours looks like new and the EX version is very rare, I would say it's fair to ask at least 1K on it. Probably between 1000-1500 USD is realistic to get on it. It also depends on how fast you want to sell it: if you are willing to wait 3-4 months to find a buyer, you could obviously ask more.

If I were you, I would do the following: list it on ebay at a high price and see if you get any people putting it in their watchlist. When you have at least 3-5 people who have the unit in their watchlist, the price is pretty close to the one you're going to sell it for.

Will be listed on ebay soon. I also have a boxed new condition WM-3. Not sure if i'll sell this one yet although i see some ridiculous prices on ebay at the moment for these.

I am amazed that new units still exist, although this is not the first I have seen on this forum. Have you bought it new back in the day ?

I bought is along with another 30 or so Walkmans from another collector about 4 years ago. All I have done is replace the belts.

I had no idea those were getting good money these days, ours aren't nearly as high but they are definately selling. You could post them in the for sale section and figure out a price, I'm sure there would be interest. Are you getting out of the hobby?

I haven't bought any for a few years now. I got rid of some rare pieces a few years ago when i was not working so needed the cash. Regretted selling a Boodo Khan and now they've gone up in price. I will probably be putting the WM3 EX and a few others up for sale. Just concerned with postage worldwide at the moment. Don't want these to get lost in transit. Had some other things i sold domestically in Australia go missing and got little to nothing from insurance.

Is your Boodokhan a complete unit with original headphone and box?
