Will it run of batteries ? I guess the base is for the cordless headphones. Noting your location, the most important question is where was it made? I recently bought myself a Philips portable CD and look where it came from. I also have a Philips Headphone radio made in Hong Kong. Having had loads of toys made there as a child the phrase fills me with nostalgia. Unfortunately, this one is just a little bit too skippy to want to use it. I need to check the guide rails etc and will take some more photos when I do.
It would be interesting to compare the years. Your AZ6819 certainly beats the AZ6815 which looks like many other CD players from around that time. I did know that Philips had a factory in Austria. My Roller 2 radio cassette was made there. p.s. If you look through enough of these you mind find the launch announcement http://epepnet.co.uk/Archives/Archive.html
