Thanks a lot, Hugo! So, it is roughly 0.025% vs 0.0022% for a tape recorded on a Dragon vs. the Calibration tape. In other words, the Dragon adds roughly 15% W&F to the 0.022% of the k909es. But, when looking at the Peak values, it is 0.051 vs 0.034, which is exactly 50% more. 51/34 =1.50. Nice weekend and thanks again! M.
Here are a few more: WM-DD33 with ANT cal tape: SONY WM-D6C: SONY Super-D6C by Dr Walkman: Surprisingly this one is superseeded by my DD33, which makes me think if it's my DD33 which is extraordinary of the SuperD6C has any kind of problem, specially seeing your D6C.
i believe your dd33 is simply better. my first measurements with the d6c showed w&f between 0.06 and 0.065% that is also indicated with the first post regarding the d6c. the screenshot i posted later might be just a little lucky case showing better result. but to be sure, i will repeat the experiment on the weekend. cheers!
Sadly, my DC2 and the Boodo khan started to fail, so I sent them to Dr walkman to perform a quick repair. Let's see when they come...
Hi. I think I know the problem with strange W&F numbers. Here is a recording made in Audacity (free audio recording app), using the Tascam iU2 and a Win10 laptop: Left side: clearly visible missing samples from the recording, problem a result of a wrong recording HW-SW combination. Right side: zoomed-in samples of the same recording reveals not only missing frames, but also interrupted signal (probably repetitive storage of same samples.) Below left: the same signal visualized as spectrogram: periodic damage of the signal is clearly visible Below right: still, same failing HW-SW setup seems to provide STILL realistic number when using the W&F too. However, it is possible that (at least the Peak) W&F value is strongly influenced by the missing samples /frames/ of the signal. Before comparing Walkmans with this W&F meter, I think it is really important to check, if the Setup works properly, ie. that the HW-SW combination does not provide damaged signal like in my case. The laptop was NOT in energy saving modus, and no other apps were running while recording. Hope it helps.
Btw, both versions of the W&F tool from that page seem to provide similar results. So I believe does not matter which one we use. (note the difference of the two: 0.5 ... 3% vs. 0.4 ... 4% scales):
Ok, here is the same experiment using a different Sound Module: the Zoom R16 with Driver version 2.1.0 No more skipping frames ... ... and better W-F values: Yes, the setup matters!

I have heard from Alex (ANT Audio) that Audacity add audible distortion to the sound, so I never used it. I always used Cool edit pro and then Adobe Audition for my small and sporadic edits. Yes, but seems to me that the needle is not point well to the proper value in the right window. 0.07 should not be placed in the middle of 0 and 0.25...
Just out of curiosity, what is the ETA for the repairs ? I asked for a repair on january of this year and ETA was roughly 2 years. Regarding the DD33, Marian measured the W&F of mine and it is ~0.09 RMS so I guess you are lucky with your. Marian said he once measured 0.04 with a DC2, but it was just than one exemplar.
Well, with Dr walkman reparis are very long in time. I have waited for more than 2 years with some. But these ones were already repaired and upgraded by him, and he gave me life-time guarantee. IT seems they have a small issue so I pray they can be back with me in less than 2 weeks. I need them for the cassette party in 7th april.
