Just wondering if anyone knows the year of make of the Sharp GF- 1740. Also wondering when they started making the GF series and when they finished. On another webpage they have 1975? For the GF-1740 but that seems too early to me. Appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this for me. Cheers Lochie

I think the 777 series came out in 81 82, not interested in the others though

It is amazing to think that boxes like the 777 are coming up to 40 years old. If you go back 40 years from 1982 you would be in the middle of WWII and the only radios available in the U.K. would be these

about 35 years ago I saw one for sale brand new in its straw packed cardboard box.
Not my scene though and much more expensive than the used Akai PJ35 I did buy back then.

I didn't even know 90% of the nicer boxes existed, we just had high-lowend around me. My neighbor did have a sweet JVC in 78 that got the bug rolling for me but I have no idea where they bought it and I think it was pretty expensive, like $300 USD back then.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the responses. 1975 didn’t feel right to me. 82-84 seems a lot more Likely. I had the GF 777 out the other day playing some mix tapes. Still sounds terrific.

Late 70's beyond any doubt I remember them well!

Sorry I was confusing the model name for a 70's Sharp - Yes the 1740 would be early 80's the mono version of the truly awful GF-4646!
