I own this Saisho STR-77 Cassette Recorder. After owning this for a year I fell like a fully qualified surgeon in ghettoblasters (ha ha ha). Most of the parts in this machine are not original, most are from a cheap knockoff thing from the 90s which is long dead. In case you didn't know, Saisho was a brand by British Retailer Dixons, I own one of the budget boom boxes. I highly recommend using types 2 Tapes in this (if you ever find one). Have you ever owned Saisho or another reatailers own brand tape machine?
Thanks, it is that really matters. Good to know because "unknown" means same as "tanashin". From now on I'll take a look when I see one...
That's not the model I have, mine is smaller. I'm unable to load pictures because I use a phone but I'll have some in my gallery.
Maybe like one of these in the 1982 catalogue Like many of the own brand Boomboxes such as Realistic and Triumph they were made by whoever the retailer could get a good deal with at the time. Interesting to see a Prinz at the bottom of this advert. That too is a Dixons own brand but back from when they thought a German sounding name would be more popular than Japanese. Nowadays they use the brands Matsui and Sandstrom.
The compo system is a Samsung No question - I repaired these in the 80's! &...........these are not bad performers for the time!! Triumph used many manufacturers from unknown to Hitachi & Unisef to name but two..........
I have a big matsui and it's a powerhouse, it could benefit from better speakers though...it has dolby and uses a single motor for each deck that shocked me...back in the day it was £100 new
On eBay I found a similar boombox. Link below: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Sai...%3A4c7e95fd15b0a5eb36141d04fffe6be6%7Ciid%3A1

Yep, thanks, it's a pity that the back plate has no FCC ID, knowing it we may try to identify the manufacturer.
Mystic Traveller, I had a look inside it as it's stopped working. It's made by JVC and the capacitors are made by Mitsubishi.
These are completely Mickey Mouse I'm afraid...........Market quality poor performers & not desirable at all!! Try & find a Saisho/Matsui compo system if you must have a Saisho!! A JVC or Mitsi it ain't I'm afraid, absolutely not!!
