Hello! I recently got one of these beautiful devices but it did not come with an AC adapter. The National brand one is 4V 200mAh. Is there any third party or newer adapters that anyone is aware of?

4V is very uncommon, but the device will very likely work fine on 3V which is way more common.

There are a couple of aspects to be aware of when searching such an adapter:
    1. The plug is center negative. Pay very careful attention to this aspect ! It's unlikely to find a center negative one, so you may need to rewire it yourself to be center negative.
    2. You need either a linear regulated power supply or a good quality switching one. I strongly recommend against using unregulated power supplies !

The only one I can recommend is the SONY AC-ES3010. It's a 3V switching supply and does work fine with such devices, modified the DC jack on a couple of them myself.
However, not sure if the jack that comes with it will fit this walkman and you will also have to rewire it to be center negative.
The advantage is these can be found at relatively low prices and are of much better quality than cheap commercial swtiching ones.

EDIT: The AC-ES3010 is not a good AC adapter for the RQ-JA100. After doing tests on the walkman, it doesn't work below 3.8V. So a 4.5V adapter is needed instead.

Oh wow, that actually seems above my skill level. Do you think I could possibly commission you to modify that for me?

You can but I need to know what type of jack the walkman uses in order to see if the one that comes with AC-ES3010 can be re-used or I need to replace it with another type and if so with which type.
However given the rewiring is something very simple, I would rather recommend going at a local electronics repair shop to do it as it's very likely to be cheaper that way.
Note that by re-wiring I mean simply cut the cable and solder the 2 wires backwards and put heatshrink on top of them.
The case of the supply is ultrasonically welded, so opening it will do some damage on the edges, that would be unavoidable. That's why I prefer not to open it.

If you want me to do it for you (I can purchase the supply myself), I'm happy to do so, you can send me a private message and we'll discuss further details there.

Also, I suggest typing on the box below the post and press "Post Reply" button rather than using the "Reply" button on the previous post, as that will always quote the previous post, which is unnecessary.
