I used to participate here decades ago as JustSanyo on the old site, but that id doesn't seem to work any more. I have a fairly wrecked Aiwa HS J09, and a Sanyo M9998 that needs repairs. As the original owner of both, I have the Aiwa's stereo microphone, holster and owners manual. Unfortunately the neat folding earphones have been lost. I have everything that came with the Sanyo except the original carton. So I have the microphones, mic stands, battery tubes, owners manual, purchase receipt and AC power cord. I'm looking forward to getting advice to repair the Sanyo's tape drive, dial lamp, am band and noisy volume pot. I have a service manual for it, but the manual doesn't go into disassembly much beyond opening the case. The Aiwa has too many buttons etc. missing to bother repairing. It has the usual broken battery door. My first impression of the new site is that it is a refreshingly civilized community.
Welcome again, Steve! Yes, in this forum we couldn't import the old user list so you have to register again. However, as you have been explained in the welcome email, you can browse the old posts in the Old forum tab.
Welcome back! Some of the old members pop in from time to time and hopefully you can get your very highly popular players going. If your old enough to remember ARKAY, he did a great write up on DeOxit, I'd start with cleaning all the controls on your M9998. The site is Audio Karma, they deal more with component audio. Cleaning might help with the AM and Volume, I've found when the units sit for years, the switches get corrosion and won't play nicely when moved into the other positions (since corrosion blocks the signal). https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/the-idiots-guide-to-using-deoxit-revisited.207005/ I don't know what your skill level is but most service manuals stink, especially with belt sizes and troubleshooting.
Excellent! Thanks for the welcoming. I now have the M9998 dismantled sufficiently to change the belts, so I'm going to post my progress and questions in the tech forum.
