    Hi,
Can anyone help me out with the model number of the motor fitted in the Sony WM-1 personal cassette player?

Or a suitable alternative that I can use.

    Cheers, Ant.

    Hi Ant,
I noticed we did not cover it yet on WML.
Here is the service manual: https://elektrotanya.com/sony_wm-1_wm1_sm.pdf/download.html#dl

Thanks for that the motor shows part number 8-835-028-11 which I still cannot cross reference with anything available. It is the same motor that is fitted to Sony TCS-300 if anyone knows a replacment motor for that one instead?

What is wrong with the motor? @Valentin maintains a repair guide thread.
Perhaps the only way to obtain a different motor is the source a bad looking TCS-300 or WM-1.

That motor looks bad, I would simply replace it with another one.
While it might be repairable with a lot of work and patience, I don't think it's worth spending the time on this one.

Would be useful to get a manufacturer part number for the motor, as I'm pretty sure the motor isn't actually manufactured by SONY but by a 3rd party.
With that code, it will be easy to search for a new replacement in the same form factor and similar characteristics.

That's exactly what I am trying to find out - compatible replacement.

Yeah I saw that - no shipping to the UK though, and even if there was $30 + shipping to UK, prob not worth it for my not so perfect WM-1

I see. Well, unless you find a cheap donor in a car booth sale, it might prove hard to find a more cost effective alternative. Even then, the motor condition would be hard to assess from the outside.
    Good luck!
