I recently came back to cassette tapes after having given up on the media and moved entirely digital (I left my vinyl collection in a basement in France when I moved to the Bay Area in 1987). I am an audiophile who spent way too much money but I am not the snobbish type (despite being French!).

Recently, I inherited my Dad's collection of tapes (mainly classical with some "French chanson") and want to be able to enjoy it for a long time. These tapes are also very precious to me for emotional reasons. I still have the Sony WM-D6C that I bought in 1991 (here in Menlo Park).
Last summer, I took my first trip to Tokyo and bought a WM-D33 (from the Walkman Clinic) just for that trip so I could indulge at the Waltz store (highly recommended).
I am rebuilding a tape collection through Discogs and local record stores but it is hit or miss on the quality of the tapes.
I recently acquired a Sony TC-D5 Pro II and I am looking for a tech who is familiar with this unit and would be willing to refurbish it (I know it is going to be expensive but I need something rather small with great sound).

    Happy listening to all,
