The day before yesterday, I decided to tackle replacing the pinch roller on my GE 3-5267a as it had gotten hard and started to chew cassettes. All went well and she's back to singing again. Inside Photo Pinch Roller replacement. I didn't have a pinch roller with a 2.5mm center hole so I cut the old tire off the original plastic center hub, then slipped on the new one. A look at this models cassette mechanism Back together looking down at the replacement roller. Looks fantastic! Seems to be playing well now. I am happy this job is over.
Yup good job. Hard and shiny pinch roller It is always a risk that the new pinch roller will be garbage or defective and make some bad wow and flutter. (That happened to me with D6C and new pinch roller from good reliable source fixyouraudio. It added too much w&f...it was warped and rolled around with a visible error. I couldn't believe it! So I cleaned the old pinch roller with 70% IPA and lots of Q-tips, actually took off the shiny easily and quickly, restored, not cracked at all. Back to sanity. Got lucky. Phew.)
Thanks. I did get my pinch roller from fixyouraudio and I too noticed there were some slight visible imperfections in its surface when in play. It no longer chews tapes but sometimes it will not like some cheap blank cassettes that I have recorded on.
I always had issues with cheap tapes back in the day, they were like a meal for my decks. I've used Rubber Renue with some success, even though the bottle is small, it lasts forever.
