Great thread ! I remember that post about your M90 brutus back from the old site and this Candle is an awesome piece. The one i use at work place s a Mini Red Sharp QT7.
I found another fugly box performing it's duty in our machine shop. The guys here have no taste... Behold the crap that layeth on the sill!
Here's my current beater box in use...bit hidden as I was taking a picture of what I'm doing not the box. This one gets filthy and chucked about! I have 4 other boxes in use at my offices too
mod, please move this fred here: http://stereo2go.org/forums/threads/found-on-a-farm-anybody-interested.1014/#post-7882
My first Sharp GF - 9191 Purchased new in the late 70's Has survived 2 house renovations & spent many years stored in the loft Now lives in my garage - Radio still sounds fab!!!
Purchased this JVC CD/Radio Cassette when we moved to our current house in the early 90s - Our first ever CD Player This now lives in my shed but in the summer gets loads of use in the garden for listening to my favourite station BBC Radio 2
found this GF-8686 today in a moto-repairshop, well working in combination with that retro-Philips-CD-player left next to it:
Oh that poor box, it looks so forlorn. It has some replacement speakers and some tweeters added and the deck buttons all taped up
i can asure you that this box - as converted and baggered as shown - does have a superb live right where it is, the owner wouldn't exchange it for anything else, because he loves it as is and had bought it himselfe in those days when new !
...our general company-rocker: JVC kaboom 1st. generation. i was able to make this pic because our beloved kaboom is now here in the storeroom in between two construction-sites. off course all guys love it, checkout the "professionally" installed wifi- adapter with this babe on the scaffolding you blow all those "Makita" and "DeWalt"-blooming worker's radios down to a pocket-radio, and as tough as built it will serve definitively a few more years
Ok thats good i don't feel so bad for it now. It is like me, rough around the edges but still good for a tune or two
I'm trying to get a lovely Sanyo M-9813 from a motor-repair shop but no, the owner is not giving it to anybody, he said! The good news is that (1) the box is in immaculate conditions (d'oh!) and (2) he still uses tapes But I am stubborn and I'm offering him a trade with a double deckered bigger and most solid unit! Who knows, maybe he will give that coveted little fella to me...
I actually found a crappy JVC egg radio at a local thrift shop and specifically looked for a similar coil. you can see that the taper is not the same but it beats polishing and scraping rust off. I've been told Coke works as well but I believe that the M90's oxidation was so bad it pitted the metal, so even if it came out clean it would look very bad.
View attachment 5349 ... space... the final frontier... these are the voyages of the starshi... this was stolen from the enterprise, wasn't it? It belonged to Mr. Scott's engineering workshop, didn't it? Beam it back!!
