    I don't think they shipped many over here, the AIWA 50 Series, Hifi Stereophonie 1981. I can't remember if I've posted this already.......

    Here's a wild component, it looks like it's for the 22 Series but I don't know for sure, super rare! The AIWA MIX-4 for microphone mixing into the cassette deck. $150 USD shipped from Japan if the listing disappears. I love the name "BBD, Bucket Brigade Device"

    Any of our UK Members know of the Boot's AIWA Mini Stereo? From 1981 Electronics and Music Maker

    I have had a saved search for an L22 cassette deck in eBay since getting the Amp and Tuner. Looking at these two the backs are very different.

    The second one is the first I have seen with DC power.
    Unfortunately the front was in poor condition with lots of the trim missing so I didn't buy it.

    The cassette deck seems to be the hardest thing to find over here, at least at a reasonable price. That's interesting about the differences with the DIN and RCA and the missing DC option.

    What would be the value price of all of this as pictured above, present day?
    * and *
    Aiwa CARRY COMPO CB-20 price 296.17 sold for 05 January 2025
    # sold for that price above - not working, thoughts?

    The box is the prize, the rest can be found individually, the price is right for a system in nice condition. The rarest part is the battery compartment which almost never comes up for sale, I don't know if it's interchangeable between the CS-5 and the CB-20. The CS-5 has the "10" System, the CB-20 (JDM CS-9) has the "22" System.

    The full box weighs right around 50 lbs, shipping is going to add a decent amount to the sell price.

    Techmoan did a video on the 22 System, the small units can be a pain to work on, I have one (lugged over from Japan) on my desk that works just fine. I do use a JDM Voltage Wart for this one.

    Bucket Brigade Device is a term I've seen on other components of this vintage from different brands. I also very much love the name too. If you look at this Sanyo compo system, it also says 'Bucket Brigade Device' down on the amp above the VUs. I didn't know this, but a BBD is a type of analog delay system... used in both your Aiwa box and this compo to provide mic echo... primitive but functional. The name comes from the imagery of Firefighters in a line handing down buckets of water to a fire spot. There is a delay in the buckets getting there, and there's bound to be spillage along the way!

    Do you still have this AIWA RB-10, and what kind of batteries does it take?

    Good stuff Recaptcha! These little tidbits come up and nobody knows the answer or origins.

    C2G, I have it around here somewhere, I'll try to pull it out.

    After viewing a view this is quite a good demo of what a BBD does to sound

    Fun fact. The CCD devices that made small cameras possible are closely related to a BBD. Different levels of light shining on the elements produces the video output.
