Which version of the 'Sony Demonstration Tape' came with which version of the TPS‑L2? Is this related to the TPS‑L2 versions or was it a regional thing? For example, did the TPS‑L2 in Japan come with one version of the 'Sony Demonstration Tape' and in the US with another? Thanks in advance! YEKS-1 (CD-812) vs YEKS-63
For this video I used YEKS-1 (CD-812). No comments that indicate its the wrong tape The Walkman and tape are both from the European market.
I've seen TPS-L2's with both versions of Demo tape on eBay and elsewhere on the internet. What interests me is: 1. Did Gen 1 (Guys & Dolls) came with YEKS-1 and Gen 2 with YEKS-63? 2. Did Gen 1 (Guys & Dolls) came with YEKS-63 and Gen 2 with YEKS-1? 3. Was it a regional thing? Edit: As soon as I posted this I've found on Discogs that YEKS-63 was released in 1982. So it probably came with later models of Walkman.
@Mladen Gavrić : the info below is from Walkman.land, behind the scenes: CD-813, CD-814, CD-816, CD-817 and CD-818, I did not add all parts of all models, that is not the intention. For 250+ models I started to add 'important' parts, like ICs, motor, heads, and also demo tapes. Although Sony did not continue for a long time to provide demonstration tapes with their units. TPS-L2, WM-1, WM-2, WM-3 seem to all have come with the CD-813. It was available once for 6USD from Sony Parts; now out of stock, as its replacement. I found several references to YEKS-12 (eBay, pictured below) and YEKS-63 (for instance old-boomboxes, they state release year '83) for the CD-813. In an older thread here on S2Go, members mention CD-812 came with an early version of the TPS-L2. When searching for CD-812, YEKS-1 is the one I found. I can not find a reference CD-813 in service manuals though. Let me know when you crack this nut, I will update the info on WML. We are planning to make some of the parts info available on the site this year. Regards, Emiel
Hi @Emiel Yup, according to old-boomboxes CD-813/YEKS-12 was released in '83 and came with WM-20. Also, according to old-boomboxes and compact-cassettes CD-811/YGSK-104 was released in '79 and came with early TPS-L2 CD-812/YEKS-1 was released in '80 and probably came with later versions of TPS-L2 (I've seen lots of eBay and YahooAuction listings of TPS-L2 with that tape). Anyway, if I find something definitive, I'll let you know. I also plan on scanning and listing all the documents/papers/brochures (Names/PartNo) that came with TPS-L2 and posting them here somewhere.
The service manuals on WML do not indicate Sony shipped the WM-10 (and relatives) with any demo cassette. Keep us posted. Together we can uncover the mystery of demo tapes!
Good question. I have a couple of TPS-L2s and I think 2 or 3 with the original demo tape, all the same "Jungle Strut" like your 2nd picture. I bought most locally in The Netherlands so they're likely originally from NL, but not sure.
Hey Timewarmp, thanks for the reply Could you, please, check the serial numbers on those TPS-L2s that came with demo tape, when you get time. My theory is that early models came with CD-811/YGSK-104, mid serial models came with CD-812/YESK-1 and later ones came with YEKS-63. Probably depending on the date/year of release of those tapes.
