Cool boomers, those big Marantz's are huge! That guy has an interesting channel, I love the Grundig Party Center, it's cheezy 80's but it kind of still works.
Just found this channel with a tune-up on a CRS-2104, awesome! He looks like a pretty big UK Collector, maybe Northerner? Lot's of cool boombox videos. He talks about the great tuning section, yep.
It's not too rare ; ) I post most of what I find, they pop up then disappear. DUG did a video of it years ago and said it wasn't rare. Maybe not in Tokyo but I don't think they got exported, mine was hand carried by my mule to my awe trembling hands. You should post some photos of yours or at least the swag that came with it, didn't you get the box and manuals?
I got these off a yahoo Listing last summer, unfortunately I can't credit the seller cuz I didn't save the link and they wanted silly money just for these.
In case your wondering which one is the king of the hill? CRS-8000 115,000 Yen $507 USD (1980) $2056 USD (today) CRS-5000 89,800 Yen PMS-7000 84,800 Yen CRS-4800 79,800 Yen Yea baby some heavy metal boxes and some of the most expensive. How many of these were exported, not many of the big ones, maybe the 8000 and 5000? Auto has a CRS-4800, maybe more went to Europe but I don't think we got any.
this beautyful handbag drifted in the bay for quite a while (a few month !). finally i contacted the seller, nice guy, he made me a real good price - i can sleep better now
what a surprise ! the bags are almost identical, the whole setup as well. as much as i can say, the Sony was made 1969 to 1974, the Superscope in 1974 (?), i would have put a confident bet, that they're the same units (with a bit of changing design), but they aren't. they are completely different: was there more of those stereo-cassette-recorder-bags ?
so now the big question: was there more of those ? stereo-cassette-recorder in a bag with external speakers ?
...back to topic, check this: https://www.ebay.de/itm/22462227272...460&brand=Sony&_trksid=p2351460.c100667.m2042
Thanks for posting! I have the Sony Model. I find this subject fascinating because Superscope had Sony Tape Distribution Rights here from the early 60's to 1979 but it also looks like they (Superscope) were also copying and competing with Sony Compact Cassette Products with this and later with the PMD Models. The story is Superscope saw the beautiful Sony R2R's in the early 60's and loved them so much they worked out a USA Distribution Deal, I wonder if that unit is one of the first ones? It looks like they might have gone over to Europe as well.
