I haven't seen this military style radio before, from 1975, the Sanyo RP-8252E

From the Sanyo 1971 Catalog, some of the early boomboxes found over on archive.org, these are some of the first mini's and some suitcase models for Techmoan.

I thought this was neat, a cool old Sanyo Water Bucket in Japan.

Sanyo 1976, I'm starting to wonder what their first stereo model was?

Look back up the page and they had the MR-416 back in 1971. A similar model is in their 1973 catalogue. I guess your question is what their first model in the now familiar boombox format was. As discussed before many people thought stereo was pointless unless the speakers were three feet (1m) or more apart. Sony thought that the answer was side facing speakers fed from a fancy stereo expanded circuit.

Sony and Superscope, I believe both the Superscope CRS-1800 and CRS-2000 had side mounted speakers. I'm sure the stereo guys were rolling over when they first saw how close "boombox" speakers were. Now I'm wondering how many BBX's might have had a subwoofer besides the handful of big ones we know about. My main issue with models like the Sanyo above are that the extra speaker is always very light so it feels cheap.

Almost looks like it might have been a small refrigerator from the 1950s.
