Olympus LS-11 "Linear PCM Recorder" that runs on 2AA battery sounds great. It does make a very nice and suitable Digital Audio Player in my opinion. I load .wav files and .mp3 files directly to it's built in 8gb memory. It also has full size SD card. Orange backlight can be selected from always off, 5, 10, 15, 20 etc., seconds per button touch to always on.

It has mostly aluminum body by the way. So many good features. Cheap on e-bay at around $90. I can recommend it for an offbeat casual DAP player. Oh yeah it makes good recordings too  It kinda just steamrollers the old Discman players for sheer convenience and display screen info.

But the best part to my way of thinking is that it runs on 2AA battery. 7 weeks of daily listening now and still full power bars are illuminated. Just like some reviews mentioned - incredible run time!

The continuous audio level indicators and bright red LED when peak / clipping occurs is useful.

Around 2010. Google will turn up some good comprehensive reviews.
