Just wanted to say hello! Gen-Xer not new to boomboxes, started in the late 70s. Had a couple Sanyo's including a M9990, Sharp GF 767 and GF777. None of which I own now.

Over the years I lost interest, but about 10 years ago got super motivated to own them again. Always wanted a JVC M70, have one now. I also have a PC-5 that needs a little help, and a PC-11.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hello.

Hello Barb Bush. I am very happy to see another member from California
I love PC-11 as well but not a big fan of PC5. I collect walkmans and also have a small collection of Boomboxes.

Well my GF is a whole life younger than I am. I'm ok with that, hope you are too. She doesn't know that I use her pics as my Avatar on all the forums.

I like my PC-11 better than my PC-5 also. When I got the box it didn't have very good drivers, I installed some Fostex and made it all better again. https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-4-fullrange/fostex-fe103en-4-full-range/But again they are four inch drivers, they work well enough. They are about ten years old now so might try https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-4-fullrange/fostex-ff105wk-4-full-range/soon.

With my PC-11, because I had such good luck with the PC-5 I also installed Fostex drivers in it. https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-5-fullrange/fostex-fx120-5-full-range/ It sounds amazing, actually has such good punch I listen to that box daily with a BT device and my Samsung tablet. Its pretty beat up, as the guy who owned it before me smoked, and you know how that goes.

    FORGOT TO MENTION:

LOL. It is Barb Bush, there are two, one young one old. I've used this name online since 96 when I started gaming. Still use it with the first person shooters. Yes, I am conservative and have taken the oath to defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Hope we can still remain acquaintances.

It really does. You will get a bit of port noise though because of how much air the driver moves. I'm all good with that, it sounds amazing. Why didn't they make a box with really good drivers? I just cannot figure it out.

Now for the PC-5, I had to drive my Polk Audio T15s to get that type of output. I'm trying to figure it out how I can use them for a DIY build. Working on it.

The European Marilyn M (2M!) Brigitte Bardot...
You are right About bad drivers installed.... I think iTS all About price... If you look to all the different parts to produce a boombox, i am always surprised that they could make iT for that amount of $$$....

    Welcome Barb Bush
Speakers rely on magnets. There have also been massive improvements in magnets over the past thirty years,
plus the old ones tended to loose their magnetism over the years so won't be as good as they were new.
Have you ever played with the magnets out of a modern hard drive ? You have to watch your fingers.
