I'm always looking for very old prerecorded cassette tapes, feel free to post any photos of your old ones. I think most started showing up around 1966. My local record shop had these in the cheap box, the Moody Blues is from the 80's, I got it because of the rare label and it cost nothing. The other two are AMPEX Tapes, according to Discogs, they're from 1967! Making them my oldest tapes so far. The Ampex Shells are slightly different, I'm sure little quarks were showing up in the early days that had to be fixed.
nice! yesterday got my oldest in (as of yet). First cassette by Radiola (Philips) from 1966, that's a blank cassette btw...will shoot some pics 2morrow in daylight.....
I am presently auditioning a copy of This Is The Moody Blues. The J-card is old cardboard and dated 1974. I was as careful as I could be but the tape separated from the leader; the leader was adhered to itself and was never going to unwind a single millimetre. I had a lucky break; pun not intended but the shell split perfectly with nothing broken and it's back in one piece playing acceptably well.
In September I will have had this tape 50 years. For my 14th Birthday I got a cassette recorder. I don't remember if we went there specially, but a week or two later we were near a record shop and my Father took me in there and let me choose one Pre-Recorded tape. Being a Vangelis fan I chose his latest release. I recall it being about £3 which would have been over three weeks pocket money back then. I did get blank cassettes at the same time as the cassette recorder. My Mother had had a Sanyo Radio Cassette recorder since 1973, although she bought that to use at the school where she taught (in preference to the schools 1950s equipment) so during term times that, and her Philips UFO record player, were in her classroom (locked away when not in use).
